I'm not a "fam" (ie. a sheep who will do whatever Prince tells me, including change the way I speak), but there are many things I like about Prince. His songs are one of my favorite things about being alive. I don't know of a nicer thing to say than that. He's one of the great musicians alive today, and a brilliant songwriter. He seems driven and disciplined, and like he has a great work ethic. And when I had a chance to talk with him I thought he was funny, gracious, and charming. And he has a GREAT ass.

So? That doesn't mean I can't also say he strikes me as a (at least potentially) controlling egomaniac who once in a while releases pretty awful music (NPS!!!) and who picks his associates based more on their looks/charm/submissiveness than on their brains/talent/personality.

Meaning: he's human, so he's a mixed bag like all of us.

Will it make you feel better if I do the same for myself? Ok, here:

I'm smart and compassionate. I think hard about my beliefs and have strong principles. I'm creative, educated, laid-back, and a good friend. I have cool hair. I'm kind to animals. I'm a pragmatic idealist.

I'm also moody, a bit lazy, and more than a bit opinionated. I tend to forget that not everybody is as outspoken as me, so I don't always let everybody have their say. I complain about things. I'm not as ambitious as I'd like to be. I often don't follow through on projects. I have trouble respecting others comfort zones. I'm not good looking.

I'm human, so I'm a mixed bag.

Alright? Geezus.

Damn, will you marry me? Anywho, on the subject. I hate the word "fam" taken from the Latin 'head up Prince's ass'. Oh, I'm supposed to say something nice about Prince. Joy In Repetition is one of the greatest songs in the world.

I love Prince's music, I love the Org and I hope the "fams" at npgmc (is that right?) don't drink the purple kool-aid.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT PRINCE, SINCE EVERYBODY'S SUPPOSE 2 B PRINCE FAMS?

Yes, certainly!! Prince is a multi-talented musician and singer who has withstood the test of time, of critics, of corporate America, of transitions in his own life, and who continues to express his talent. He is a focused person. He is intelligent, well-read, & a deep-thinker. He shares his talent, his spiritual beiefs, his love with the world.

He is beautiful inside and out. He wears so many different outfits that amaze, delight and inspire. He has awesome hairstyles. He conjures up looks on his face that run the gamet of expressions: cute, shy, silly, wild, sensual, peaceful, etc. He is fun-loving. And much much more that is positive, that is human, that is real.

Thanks for asking, LOVE77.

PEACE!

If you want fams perhaps you should try princefams.com

or the ol' npgmc-homestead...

Actually that is true. I was thinking of signing up until I wandered in with a friend and read two or three of the topics in the forums. I will never be a member as the threads almost made me sick.

umm.exactly what were the threads you read?

The thread that convinced me that I couldn't join was a thread about the severe censorship on the site and people were actually saying that it was a good idea.

I really don't like people who think that everything Prince says is the gospel and that site is full of them.

I am not really intrerested in paying money to chat or to post on forums that are full of people who do not have a mind of their own.

I was over there today and read quite a few threads complaining about
things people did not like. Maybe you should have stayed a little longer?
(Unless you just mean the absence of profanity)
So...how's everybody doing? smile

If we all sat around here and fauned over how much we love the music, it would get tiring REAL quick.

So enjoy the analytical and the critical - it shows people have opinions, and they aren't afraid to express them - unlike the NPGMC message board.

Prince has the creative potential to compose some of the greatest single theme experience albums ever created. Some say he is an original composer and other say he steals ideas from those he works/jams with. No matter what anyone can say if he can hear it, record it and take it to the next level so FAST.. then he is one of a kind.

Yes Prince is as musically colorful as crystal but his projects are like rainbows.. colorful but only seen by a few people and only for a short time before they disappear.

Prince has created enough R&B, Rock, Funk, and Jazz prior to 2000 for any music lover to be happy. I hope he gets committed to creating something in the entertainment business that is "more lasting" in the future instead of these "new power" rainbows.

So to say something nice. He has a great talent to somehow create and launch new ideas where the sky is the limit.

That's why I like his works better than the current rap music. The rap music seems to offer too much anger and despair, a murderous spirit and true hatred, bitterness, and a pulling downward.
Prince's music has given me hope. A look upward. Something to celebrate.

Not to disagree with you for the most part, but do me a favor. Check out Common's Electric Circus, The Roots' Phrenology, Mos Def's Black on Both Sides and Talib Kweli's Quality before writing off hip-hop altogether.

Prince is the most talented musician in the world today.

Prince is the greatest popular artist of his era and the greatest since Jimi Hendrix.

Prince has made moving, inspiring, exhilirating music that has inspired me during my life.

Prince's music understands me as much as I try to understand it.

Despite his apparent idiosyncracies and flaws (who doesn't have them), Prince ultimately believes in God, love and freedom and expresses those beliefs powerfully in his work.

Prince will be remembered by many as Duke, Miles, Coltrane, and Hendrix were before him.

How's that?
