The best scene in Purple Rain

After what has to be my 150th viewing of Purple Rain, it has struck me that the best scene in the film is the one with the Kid and his father in the basement after he plays the piano or the 'never get married' scene. Clarence Williams has been a top drawer actor since the 70s and Prince actually comes up decently on the acting chops in this part. "You got a girlfriend?...you gon get married?...never get married." Classic shit.

My favorite scene, too! Especially because it leads in to Computer Blue.

I like the scene where The Kid plays Wendy and Lisa's song on the piano, which is of course Purple Rain.

I like how they continue to use the instrumental just before The Revolution is about the perfrom the next night. Very effective use of music in a film to bring emotion to you.

Though I'm tempted to say the panty caress is best, I do have to agree w/ you. It's the strongest scene in the movie, very powerful. Clarence killed it... the shaking hands, the quick turn toward the kid omfg welled up eyes, whispery/defeated voice... bugs me out everytime, lol nod

Great question!! I have so many favoutite scenes.
But, my absolute favourite has to be when Prince and Appollonia are listening to the girl crying backwards. The drum loop is amazing. It's similar to the one's on "When doves cry" and "Noon Rendevous". I play that scene at full volume.
I also, love the last 10 seconds of "God" - it has this weird synth-sound
And, the 12" version of "Let's go crazy" is fairly wondeful too!

Just kidding! Actually I always felt that Wendy's performance was not that bad in that scene!

My fav. PR scene is the Time singing Let's Go Crazy right before that famous line..."How's the family"! Cold but hilarious!

The best scene is in the trailer to the movie when Prince breaks up the Appolonia 6 rehearsal and throws some blows at Jellybean. That scene would have so funky if they left it in the movie. Prince beating up The Time.punch

Or

The infamous barn scene where Prince bangs out Appolonia, which is also in the trailer to the movie.

Seems that we got cheated with all this great material on the cutting room floor.

I never knew that Pej. I am going to have to watch it tonight.
