Blast From The Past 9.0

Has any one listened to this yet? Looks like a rehash of old stuff. Was wondering if anything is updated in quality.
Looks like at be a pain in the ass to compare quality to other releases

Copy and pasted this from al old thread

Thanks for the heads up.

I noticed Goldnigga Full Length listed here. Wasn't that one confirmed to be a fan edit?

The diamonds and love flacs that came with it sound a whole hell of a lot better than the MP3’s I had.

The lossless .flac filed leaked this past December.

Those sounded way better than the MP3s.

Knowing the BFTP crew, they probably also EQ'd the shit out of everything.

Maybe that's all they did? Seems like the ultimate rehash of all rehashes. It looks like all of it is stuff we've had for awhile. Most of it a loooong while. wink

I think "Prince Humming A Tune #1 & 2" are new to me lol I feel like a few of the 78 instruments are too. But the quality is so bad. I'll never listen to these. I'll toss them in with the rest of my collection

These may have leaked elsewhere already, but two of the songs are new to me.
"Tell Me How U Want 2 B Done (Extended Remix)" seems to be from a lossy source and might be fan-made. However, the section from 4:04 to 4:36 couldn't have been made with just a simple cut-and-paste. Can anyone tell if it's fan-made or not?
As for "The Big Pump (George Clinton 1990 Version)", I've never heard this version before.
I'm not super excited about either of them, though...

Sound-quality-wise, I didn't notice any improvement from the existing sources except for "The Grand Progression," which has more emphasized vocals in the mix. I guess it was done with the help of recent vocal demixing technology.

.

correction: Vocal emphasis of "The Grand Progression" was found on "30 Years Of Unreleased Funk Vol. 2" and "Work It Volume 3", so it wasn't new.

The Ganster Glam remixes were better quality than the ones I had, or, if I do have this quality already, they slipped by me and I didn't notice.

I don't know this edit of Turn Up. Is it legit or a fan mix?

I can't be bothered comparing any of the boombox recordings because I don't listen to those.

Other than that, complete rehash for me.

"Turn up" is a fan-made. You can find it "Turn Up - Prince Vocal Mix (99PROBLEM5)" on YouTube. It' a nice mix.

When i seen BFTP 9.0 days ago.
I intently thought "Unbeknownst 2 u" might have been on it doh!
Then I seen the set list. A bit confused, looks like a bunch of rehash, and fan made mixes? Why...
Also isn't "Madrid (edit) a fan edit.

Just venting smile

Agreed. Pirate all bootlegs.

I don't disagree, but someone's got to buy it in order to rip it. So there has to be a bit of gratitude for that if nothing else, no.

I'm ALWAYS grateful to those who share. And, between 1988-1998 I paid for MANY bootlegs. But once the ability to trade exact copies with no quality loss came along, first with CDRs then with digital files, I stopped. No reason to spend $ when I could trade one the many I had bought for the new ones. That said, I've gotten back into vinyl the last couple years and purchased a few bootlegs records that I knew the material, knew the quality, and knew I would enjoy playing on wax. But something like this? Hell, no! Thanks to those that share but I will NOT pay for it. I will however happily trade copies of one of the thousands of boots I already have to anyone that does pay for new boots and is willing to share. And since '98, that has been enough to keep me up to date on everything out there whether they are cash grabs or actually a good release. Often it's not even necessary. When you develop a reputation of being willing to share boots with others, people are happy to share with you. That's the way it should be with boots, fans sharing and trading with one another. No?

On that note, if there's an old boot you're looking for, let me know... wink

Have we ever had a proper credible confirmation that Prince recorded "life without end, at last" and if so, that his recorded is the one on this boot?

I remember being told by a random Prince fan/JW that this was he back in the early 2000s and downloaded the MP3's then, but I have never heard anything concrete from someone like Larry Graham or a session engineer.

I was also wondering about "pickle". I remember the name of the track from interviews, but is the pickle on BFTP 9 kosher? When did it start circulating?

I can't answer your questions but I can confirm that this is the same Life Without End that has circulated for nearly 25 years and the same Pickle that has circulated for at least 12 years.
