Thank you

.

We don't learn that much, but some interesting parts are that "they're starting to break a little bit under all the criticism that's coming at them." I honestly thought they didn't give a fuck at this point, particularly given Mr. McMillan's provocative posts calling fans out on social media... And that they're "overthinking" things and getting "paralized" as a result (perhaps they should hire someone who won't? Certainly there's work to be done and people who wouldn't get "paralized"?).

.

She also mentions the shelved RSD release (and called them out for lack of organization leading to the failed test pressing not being redone in time) and claims there will be more meetings, possibly online in the future. Now that would be interesting. It kind of defeats the purpose, though, that the meeting she attended is still shrouded in confidentiality. What are those people so afraid of? I have no idea.

More excuses. Sob stories of how they suffer!
Warner made an offer for a big P&M box set and they turned it down, only wanting to do the main show.
So this idea that they want to wait and do it “big” is nonsense. They could have done it and released it already.

Great, I hope they both do the right thing and stand down as a consequence. As long as the buck stops with them, I do not hold out much hope.

That and the fact that, at long last, some media has been calling them out for the lack of releases gives me a little hope for improvement.

He reminds me of an ailing dictator who refuses to step down, but if he did, it would be for the greater good.

Edit: I understand now.

My observation of this is there are too many entities involved here.
There is no reason why a 40th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition of Parade hasn't been released. Especially when it was ready in 2017.

Exactly. It's no use in listening to whatever they say because most of the time, it's just plain lies.

Instead, we should just have a look at what they've done so far (ie little to nothing).

prince

The truth is that they are saving the content of the Vault to sell it at the best price they can.

prince

Also, they've probably been working on the licensing rights issue. Their goal is most likely to get Warner out of the way to reduce the number of shareholders in order to maximise their profit margins and thus valorize the assets. They may or may not find a buyer in the end but their goal is crystal clear to me.

Consider that Londell years ago tried to get a $30 million deal with UMG and that ended with him getting reamed by the courts and the estate having to pay back that money: https://www.npr.org/secti...vestigated

Hopefully he's learnt his lesson this time.

Update from Funkatopia:

"In short, this trip was very revealing. I received a lot of one-on-one with each member of the Estate (Prince Legacy LLC) and a lot was revealed to me that I was unaware of and also explaining many public misconceptions. It was VERY eye opening.

It also provided serious insight into their perception of Funkatopia and how I can clean things up for a much brighter future moving forward with them, so you can expect a continuation of a tighter ship on my side. While we all have the same goal of preserving and protecting Prince's legacy, I need to proceed using business glasses.

As a beautiful gesture, aka olive branch, Londell and team actually announced Funkatopia's candlelight vigil at Riley Creek FROM THE PAISLEY PARK STAGE, in front of everyone in attendance. That was very humbling and appreciated.

I know that I promised a post to share some of what Londell discussed at the impromptu meeting at the NPGMC, but he indicated right at the beginning (while making eye contact with me) that the discussion was off the record. So as part of my "new leaf" due diligence, I had to ask him directly what I could share from that conversation before just divulging everything that he specifically said was off the record. So, Tuesday, we'll have a family talk. And yes, Michael B will be back on."

TLDR: another fan sells out to the estate in their own self interest. Sure, he's withholding information and making bullshit excuses for the estate's poor performance, but hey, he got shouted out by Londell onstage at Paisley Park!

What baffles me is the parts in bold.

.

It's yet another announcement that announces... future announcements?

.

It's, again, the Estate saying "yeah, we're establishing channels of communications with the fans" and telling everyone they talk to... not to repeat any of it?

.

So it's just an empty nothing. Nothing against Funkatopia there: he's just conveying what he can, which is basically... nothing?

.

So, well, sure, aw'igh, whatever... We can play this game for years I guess...

I didn't go to the "Q&A" on Monday, but I did go to the event last night. What was once the Graffiti Bridge/UTCM room, shoe exhibit, and another Purple Rain room is now an "immersive experience" room. They said it would be expanded by the time Celebration rolls around, but for now is about a 10 minute video. A lot of the clips are in the "With This Tear" video, but there was one that stood out to me and was probably the highlight of the whole night for me. It was very short, but it was from the same Lovesexy rehearsal video where he has on the red suit. One clip was him doing Just My Imagination, don't recall if it's the same one we've all seen. The other started out as instrumental with Prince's arm around Boni and dancing. He drops the mic stand to the floor and falls on the floor himself and starts singing/screaming what I thought was the name Michelle. I could be wrong. I'd probably pay $900 (price of GA Celebration tix), just to sit and watch videos all day instead of the stuff they put on. Nothing else has changed since at least last September, as far as exhibits/outfits. The 2014 Amsterdam they showed was as clear as the Glam Slam D&P show.

except the very personal story of the lady and her loss of her child b/c that
was personal in that moment. Lastly, more to come

So now everything is suddenly not off the records any longer (with exception of the personal story)?

This makes too much sense.

The excuses about missing RSD also reveal they don't have the right people for the right jobs there - all this should be locked down far in advance, not close enough to the day that botched test pressings nix the whole thing.

Lots of words when the bottom line of this fans meeting is : NO RELEASE DATE, NO NEW MUSIC.

And they'll serve the same shit at the next Celebration in june.

And that'll be it until "Lame Excuses Panel Pt.3" at Celeb 2027.

I think that a lot of problems emanate from the ownership questions. In order to get a release going you have to get Prince estate LLC to find cooperation between themselves, Primary Wave, Warner Brothers and Sony Legacy.

confused My guess is that this is a bit like herding cats. With the Batman album you even have to contend with DC copyrights and possibly Fox (now Disney owned!)

I would speculate that getting peace in the Middle East might be an easier ask in terms of competing interests.

The rights to release vault tracks may have to be settled on a case by case basis as there is legal argument for several parties to legitimately claim ownership. My guess is that nobody wants to admit how complicated this is in public, so what we get are opaque and vague promises when we ask for clarity. Just my 2c. confused

Just something I heard.
The estate apparently only wanted to put out a basic package, but Warner wanted to do more (or the Estate probably wanted more money than Warner were willing to pay).
But nothing to stop the Estate from doing a deal on that show with anyone they like. They just need to find someone willing to to pay them what they want, which they seem to be struggling with
