Tommy Barbarella Prince Piano Medley This showed up on my YouTube feed. Assume it's probably did for most orgers, but if anyone missed it. I would buy an album of this. I don't think I'd have recognised Tommy by sight. But he's looking well. . https://youtu.be/O_XzMm_o...bgWqaGnwTv
I do wonder if, somewhere in the vault Prince recorded piano instrumentals of his own songs. Surely during rehersal for the Piano & Microphone?

So good, yeah I could listen to him play for hours. It's easy to forget how many great musicians have shared their talent with Prince over the years... yes he was a genius but they all brought something new to the table that he thrived on. Tommy is a great player.

Nice to hear. Thnx for the link. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Exquisite playing and great song choices. It seems he didn’t get to showcase his playing as much as other band members. Especially toward the end, when he was mainly triggering samples. It’s nice to hear him really go.

Tommy sounds fantastic on that medley. What struck me most was how naturally those songs work as piano pieces. It really highlights how strong Prince's songwriting was underneath all the production and arrangements. As for the vault, I'd be surprised if there aren't at least some rehearsal tapes or home recordings of Prince playing solo piano versions of his own material. During the Piano & A Microphone era he was constantly reworking songs, and we know he recorded just about everything. Whether there are complete instrumental albums in there is another question, but I'd definitely buy a release of Prince piano demos or instrumentals if they exist. https://www.youtube.com/w...e=youtu.be heardle online [Edited 6/18/26 9:18am]
