That Liz Jones book sucks big time!

Imo,the best Prince books are Dave Hill's 'A Pop Life' (published in 1988) and Per Nilsen's 'DMSR'.

I haven't read 'Possessed' yet,but I am curious to check it out.

My favorite Prince bios are

Prince: A Pop Life By Dave Hill
DanceMusicSexRomance By Per Nielsen

You can find interesting stuff in all the Prince bios. You just have to use your sense of discernment.

Steve Ivory and Jon Bream had interesting bits in their bios as well.

All we need now is J. Ranny Tarreborelli to write the Mack Daddy of Prince bios.

Alex should clean up his errors in the next printing.

U2 was not led by the soaring work guitar work of Bono.

One minute he puts down Prince's stuff for having less melody and more grooves and he praises D'Angelo for swampy grooves with less melody.

Now Alex, before you post I bought your book and any Prince bio is great to help us learn about his life and his music.

So hats off to you and all the folks who wrote about Prince.

Not quite:

Let's just start with the dust jacket to 'Slave To The Rhythm' which states:

1. ' ... includes an exhaustive year-by-year discography of every Prince release'

whereas, Jones' is brave enough to admit 262 pages later that the 'exhaustive' discography claim at the front is incorrect, writing:

'The above discography is not a complete liting of every single record written and / or recorded by Prince / The Artist.'

and the modest ...

2. 'Comprehensive and insightful. Liz Jones's masterful biography is the definitive guide to America's funkiest son.'

which is the book pretending to be everything that it isn't.

I didn't find anything wrong with it. A few oversights in the proof reading, yes, but all biogs are a mix opinion and fact.

the book i clearly not aimed at the hardcore fans. they will have undoubtedley come across most of the quotes, stories and gossip. It's really aimed at the casual music fan, the person who likes biogs, see's it on the shelf at the store and thinks 'hey, i got a few of his old tunes back home...'.

If you were that person. the book would probably quite interesting, don't you think..?

cool I liked the book. It was funny to me. Prince treated everyone around him like crap & still maintained to be the best in this business. Face the facts Prince has always been known to mistreat his workers & friends... gossip or hearsay who cares. That does not mean i will hate on him. Possessed is not the worst book on Prince. If you think about it, in every Prince book is the same story...just done in a different way. Who is to question if any of this stuff is actually accurate? hmm

i'm nearly done with the book. it's definitely worth the read. he has some good resources. i mean it's not better than per nilsen's but it's much better than that liz jones crap.

Personally, I am really liking it. There are a few factual errors and a few typos, but I can't put it down. Although it is light on quotes (unlike DMSR which is still the best and still needs a followup), it is a great read for fans. Few new insights, but gripping stuff. Wish more was focused on the music because that is why we all like him. There is very little discussed about the tours as well but congrats to Alex for getting it published.
