The Vault Conversation Pt. II aka "Another circlejerk where we accept praise from the sycophants and ignore any constructive criticism"

Nothing has changed since last year's Celebration, and nothing will change after this year's.

Me too, but we're in Europe...
We were told to elect some representatives to go and meet the powers that be at the next celebration. Let's hope there's people in our "circles" in a capacity to attend. I don't believe it was the case last year.
I mean idk. I think they know who's who. And if they don't, they know people who do. They could reach out. Any reply to your petition yet?

It will be just like last year and more empty promises. They will hint at a Parade release and there will be confusion about whether it’s actually a Deluxe or Super Deluxe Edition, just like with ATWIAD.

Nobody should be paying these grifters $1200-1400 just to show up and ask a few questions that they won't give a satisfying answer to. Stop putting money in their pockets until they give us a product that is worth paying for.

"The vault is open"? There should be an exclusive listening party every day. There should be exclusive concert footage every day. Instead you get a drone show.

I've been 3 times now (2022, 2024 and 2025) and I have tickets again for this year

Each of those Celebration has been different and great for different reasons - the standout for me to date being, getting to be in the studio with 3rdEyeGirl + Shelby, with headphones on and hearing them talk through and play back, how they and Prince recorded 'What if'

The panels are typically always interesting and can rate from good to great - Susan Rogers was fantastic and even it was a short gig, there was something special about The Revolution live at 1st Avenue and the other live gigs have all been worth good.

Another standout was hearing the 'Jamie Starr' discovered track: 'Friction' if anything should be freed from The Vault IMHO it shoul dbe this - gem of a slamming early 80s Prince dance track!

Some of the above listed under LMAO - becomes very much each to their own, although the 'drone show' is new on me and I'm not sure anyone is there for the new artist showcase but it is I guess a celebration of music and Prince did support new acts. the Bloc party can be fun and so far the people I've met have been great and the whole long weekend is very on brand to the lyrics of PP.

What I would say, my 2 cents for what it's worth is that, if you're considering going at some point, don't leave it too late, as other than 3rdEyeGirl, the bands and artists Prince worked with, like us, aren't getting any younger and at some point will cease playing live and then I'm not sure what Celebrations will have going for them.

I hope it is an unmitigated disaster (ticket sales, scathing reviews, etc.), thereby sending a message both loud and clear that these two losers are mismanaging the estate and destroying prince's legacy, as obviously, neither of them takes heed from tweets!!

.

VIP presale was sold out before the official announcement (I think because people who went to previous Celebrations got emails with discount codes -- note that social media is full of people complaining that the estate didn't correctly calcutale their discounts).

.

I just don't understand people paying so much money (cuz you also got to have a hotel room and transport and need to eat and I guess pay for merch) just to hang out with fans. Especially VIP tickets are just absurd amounts for what you actually get, i.e. one hour of unreleased music (and hopefully they don't do a dance contest at the same time) and some unreleased footage.

.

And chances are that some event in Minneapolis that is not Estate-organised will be better than virtually everything they do.

.

Also, just look at the complete lack of innovation in the line-up. Same shit as previous years, except they added a drone show.

.

I kinda get the complaints that this was announced out of the blue, but I also think that people should have started saving months ago if they wanted to go.

without a question, this is the ultimate way to communicate with these money grabbers. screw a condesending drone show and silly merchandise. organize a protest outside of Paisley Park instead. That would definitely get attention and positive publicity towards Prince and the music. If you keep paying them, they'll pull this b.s. over and over. Do u really want to pay that absurd amount of hard earned cash just 2 get there and get smoke blown up your butt?

The following post (the bolding is by me) is from someone on Facebook:

Getting to sit in a room and hear three minutes of track a and five minutes of track b isn’t access, it is cruel and unusual punishment. The live video is only “rare” because the estate as it is currently run laid off everyone who was working to archive and identify material to prioritise its release. They quashed the release of a documentary that promised lots of live footage. That upon its release there would have also been full live concerts shown and released. They have no clue as to what they have nor any talented people to put together box sets and live packages. I love Prince’s music, I go back to seeing him at First Ave. in 1981. I attended Celebration until 2022. I have no interest in what the Estate is doing now. They have no credibility with me. They have done nothing to enhance Prince’s legacy. I have to work hard mentally to separate out the Estate from Prince. Prince was exciting and spontaneous and unpredictable. Everything that the Estate is not. I do not understand why the heirs with remaining shares do not sell them to Primary Wave to give a majority stake to it. They surely would be releasing new material at an accelerated rate because there is market for it that may not exist in 10 years.
I know a lot of people go to Celebration mainly to connect with others and that was a huge piece for me. The community is strong even if the structure to facilitate the gathering is not.

Only wanna know what unreleased music will be played.

(Or some brief info on a showed live performance.)

-

TITLES!

That's all we will get; titles...

and possibly some meager description by a loyal wealthy fan willing to come here and share.

Ii can only pray that some reckless fan can record or steal it and share it.

-

It's not about Prince and his loyal fanbase anymore.

It's become just a company that can be milked, not build, not caried out, except if it gets the money machine going. Just a cleverly devised strategy to collect as much as possible without having to put in too much effort or investment.

I even think that the entire vault contents are a curse for those currently in charge.

What are they supposed to do with it?

It's expensive and messy, disorganised and a money-sucking mess.

They probably just grab a dozen songs from the vault in one go, then clean them up with as little effort as possible, check PrinceVault page, use them quickly for Celebration attendees, and then throw them back into the vault at random.

Only attempt to sell well-known hits to any film or series, and blasphemously allow them to create an ultra-thin cover version of it.

Next!

THIS or ANY OTHER IDEA than what they've slapped together the past 5 years or so. I feel like there are enough of us "olds" out here that would still support some kind of PrinceCon that featured live music from OG associates, Q&A, a rare memorabilia trade show, ANYTHING that doesn't scream lazy grift.

They just aren't thinking enough about the "old heads" that actually have the money to "throw away".

If the Estate lined up 2 or 3 nights of concerts with The Revolution and special guests Sheila E, Jill Jones, Sheena Easton, Stokely for good measure, possibly even a headliner or two like Jill Scott or J Hud (who really seem to be super fans) and any number of cameos/sing-alongs with celebs/musicians who STILL tell Prince stories on air every chance they get (10 years later, no less). These guys could practically print money. IF properly marketed and advertised (re: a full 6 to 9 months, consistently before the event (or even the next celebration), they could make a killing. Not to mention add-ons like meet-and-greets and merch sales. (The potential increases by a factor of 5 if they can somehow make peace with The Time and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.)

...such wishful thinking!!!! lol lol

They kind of already did those things when Graceland was running things. The Revolution, Sheila E, The Time, George Clinton, The Family, etc. At that time tix were around $500 for GA and $800 for VIP. Only problem was that Paisley Park is small, but they did do 2 shows each day. These days they can't sell even 1 show out (last year's show with The Family, Jesse Johnson, and the Time).
