Xenophobia Celebration 2002

I've been relistening to the Xenophobia performances this week and remembered reading that at last year's celebration around 2 hours of compiled footage was screened.

If the estate really wanted to earn some goodwill and please fans, surely releasing a Xenophobia boxset is a no-brainer! 6 nights of incredible (mostly) unique intimate performances all pro-shot. Slap Kevin Smith's documentary footage on the end and you've got an unreviled video document of Prince as an artist.

Surely this week has got to be one of the highlights of Prince's career. Beyond the questionable proselytising, this is Prince at his most generous and down to earth. We all know his reputation for having a contestable relationship with his fanbase at times, but events like this really put that into question. And it helps of course that the performances are mostly all A+.

I can only assume a lot of this footage is being held in reserve for the 'future' carrot-on-a-stick documentary... but c'mon!

This is what Neversin had to say about it last June:

It was the JW propaganda/recruitment edit Prince had done out of the footage Kevin Smith shot... The most interesting things aren't in there.... - NS

was that shown to people before now?

Yes, when he went door to door with Larry he had this tape with him to show...
He aired it a couple of times at Paisley Park, definitely not for a commercial release... - NS

This Neversin should write a book, instead of attacking and shitting on innocent Prince fans all the time on other forums.

His information is off this world for sure, and super valuable i think, no doubt about that!

But rather do something bigger with it - knock over the current Estate for example.

Why not.

But no.

Instead he often acts on obscure closed Prince platforms like a rude MistraKnowItAll, making some fans crawl for respect to get some drops of info.

Bash me, whatever..

This is just in relation to the Kevin Smith documentary, right? The performances themselves were filmed (and could effectively standalone)?

Once again: as you can see by the year in the title, Xenophobia was NOT the Celebration that was filmed by Kevin Smith and that featured all that religious BS. That was 2001, the year of The Rainbow Children.

My mistake. Of course it wasn’t!

Alas, the Kevin Smith doc is not the main subject of the post. Rather, an appreciation of how incredible these concerts were, that they were filmed (in their entirety? I don’t know, but I’m sure someone does), and that they should be released!

I wonder if this ever was completed and is ready for release:https://princevault.com/index.php?title=Album:_Xenophobia_live

I've been waiting for it to come "2 a monitor near me" for nearly 24 years, now... rolleyes

I've had the bootlegs (at least some of the shows, not sure if all) for years, but I never bothered listening to them cos I'm so fed-up with audience recordings. Looking at the shows' tracklists, I gotta admit they're appealing.

I finally got hold of the Sabotage release of Xenophobia 2002 a few years ago and if the house was burning down that's the bootleg I would save. The sheer diversity and for me his best band at the height of their powers. It doesn't get any better. I consider it the cornerstone of my ONA bootleg collection cool

if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron
