The main issue I see regarding the Celebrations these days is the same issue about how McMillan & Co generally runs the Estate: arrogance.

They seem to act as if they were Prince: trying to market the Celebration as a 'Hit'n'Run' gig by P – releasing outrageously overpriced tickets as a surprise, without programming info, and selling out within a couple of hours, primarily to rich fanatics who don't care much about P's legacy, and who will be happy playing the lamest "activations" in the PP parking lot for their $1400.
I find no better word for all this than 'arrogance'. Arrogant to think they are like P who could draw a massive crowd any day with practically zero info, you'll went anyway as you could be sure he'll be brilliant. But how can you market a $1400 ticket event without a finalised program, when practically the only thing people can be sure of is that Prince, sadly, will not be there.

And I see this same arrogance behind all both the non-communication and the occasional communication by the Estate. Whether it's not disclosing important info about how they produced something for release, whether it's making promises about the vault and then not even seeing us worthy enough to provide any explanation when said promises do not materialise, whether it's making a grand gesture of asking for input and then totally ignoring all input – it all reeks of arrogance.

I'd love to be there. I'd have a couple of questions.

Me too, but we're in Europe... We were told to elect some representatives to go and meet the powers that be at the next celebration. Let's hope there's people in our "circles" in a capacity to attend. I don't believe it was the case last year. I mean idk. I think they know who's who. And if they don't, they know people who do. They could reach out. Any reply to your petition yet?

.
crickets...

When I see only 122 of us signed, I can see them saying "wow, all 122 of them?!" and laughing us away. You tried. It was a noble attempt, but I guess the community is too fragmented at this point.
I can't imagine that out of Prince's "4 millions strong army" (to quote Letitgo), only 122 fans remain, but idk how many we are really.

They just aren't thinking enough about the "old heads" that actually have the money to "throw away".

If the Estate lined up 2 or 3 nights of concerts with The Revolution and special guests Sheila E, Jill Jones, Sheena Easton, Stokely for good measure, possibly even a headliner or two like Jill Scott or J Hud (who really seem to be super fans) and any number of cameos/sing-alongs with celebs/musicians who STILL tell Prince stories on air every chance they get (10 years later, no less). These guys could practically print money. IF properly marketed and advertised (re: a full 6 to 9 months, consistently before the event (or even the next celebration), they could make a killing. Not to mention add-ons like meet-and-greets and merch sales. (The potential increases by a factor of 5 if they can somehow make peace with The Time and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.)

...such wishful thinking!!!! lol lol

They kind of already did those things when Graceland was running things. The Revolution, Sheila E, The Time, George Clinton, The Family, etc. At that time tix were around $500 for GA and $800 for VIP. Only problem was that Paisley Park is small, but they did do 2 shows each day. These days they can't sell even 1 show out (last year's show with The Family, Jesse Johnson, and the Time).

4 other things

1st - you mention price and I think that has a part to play - GA or VIP have gone up signifcantyl and that prices people out, all the more for those not stateside, where Prince had a sizeable fam base. That said, divide the price by the days of the event and things become more reasonable

2nd - the bands are getting older by the day, as we are, they may not be ready to perform or have a relationship with The Estate that is conducive to playing Celebration since the copyright enforcement of band name ownership.

3rd - selling tickets before the line up is confirmed, isn't great, as back to point 1, it is a big outlay on an unknown

4th - for a few years, there were really good limited edition vinyl / MP3 on a stick releases given out to attendees, the last few years it has been a limited edition T-shirt - which however good the T-shirt just does not stack up on any level and is a disappointment after previous Celebrations

This is 100% Kares's fault. He just aimed too high, and used far to many words (mixed with religion).

I don't sense it is arrogance.

I base that on witnessing the Q&A session last year and talking to them afterwards 121

I would suggest it is perhaps more learning on the job, sorting out a mess of contracts they inherited and based on what they said in the Q&A last year: building bridges with associated artists (that Prince had burned) and due to various sell offs by those who inherited Prince's estate, there now being many parties with a say in what happens.

There is also an element of medium to long term planning, over the short term and the reality they can't please all the people, all the time.

I didn't sign because of those two things :

WAAAAAAYYYYYY too complex, plus the regligousness.

Indeed this cut me off.

Prince has always been about AND religion AND sex. That's been clear since Controversy.

The music wan't only the vehicle : "Prince's life mission was to spread his music including all messages of love." ...would've been better imho.

I just smelled too much Larry G.

You guys are total nuts and you're talking about something you clearly didn't bother to read. What "religiousness"???
.
There is literally ZERO mention of religion or God in the main text of my paper – there never was, not before I significantly edited it, not after it.
.

The above quote is from the Introduction, and this is the ONLY time religion is mentioned – and if you think this is inappropriate in a paper about Prince, whose entire body of work is deeply and openly religious, then you haven't listened to any of his records.
.

Mind blowing.

The Vault Conversation Pt. II aka "Another circlejerk where we accept praise from the sycophants and ignore any constructive criticism"

Nothing has changed since last year's Celebration, and nothing will change after this year's.

It really wasn't like that at all - they got suggestions, push back and reminders that the fam base is not getting any younger - there was no praise.

As to change, they have done everything they said they would in terms of release - give or take the odd quibble over the interpretation of Expanded vs. SDE in regard to ATWIAD - plus Stranger Things and the covermounts for the HitnRun singles.

The hope this year in what is billed as 'The Vault Conversation Part II Panel' is that what was a discussion and sounding out of ideas last year, has evolved to more solid plans... but proof will be in the pudding.

Where is the re-release of Come 2 My House they promised years ago? Who is blocking that? Chaka has announced is years ago, so she isn't. Is it Larry Graham? i'm not saying I like by any means, clearly, it could be way better for sure 100% - as per my last 7 words above.

I was just flagging the picture you were painting just wasn't the case about the Q&A and the attendees.

From where they told us they were in June 2025, it will be very interesting to hear the progress made in June 2026

I think Kares just put in there what the Estate claimed they want from the fans and the 'real' fans want, and the Estate claimed it was only a small group of old fans that want vault releases. I think petition Kares made just proves the opposite and that the majority of (old) fans want vault music and don't really care about the legacy and all that entails according to the Estate.
Maybe someone could create another petition with the opposite of what Kares said and focus solely on releases and just see how many people sign that. I'm willing to bet it will be alot more than the 120 people that signed Kares's petition.

Experience in the industry - helps but is not be all and end all - I have experience in the lottery industry, can I do everything in the lottery industry or run a lottery, no.

They inherited a lot of deals/contracts

The archiving process was "only about 45% has been digitised." as at June 2025 - we can only hope it has come along a lot more BUT even then, when I was raving about how good 'Friction' was and what a great Record Store day release it would make, to Charles F. Spicer he told me that while it might sound good on the PP soundsystem, the base recording analogue source would be a poor listening experience on modern playback devices. So, even when they find material they want to release - the older stuff is not in a fit state to release and needs cleaning up - this takes time.

Please do not think for a second, I think the state of affairs is great, I'm just trying to keep it real. We need them, as much as they need us.

There's no need. Out of the seven comments (another thing Kares shuld have focused more on) the message is clear: (We are not getting younger, free the music!)

"Free the music. We aren't getting any younger and the fam's need Prince's music".

"Thank you for putting together a good documentation of the issue! It is horrible how poorly managed the Estate is now and I do fear loss of his legacy due to it."

"I really think that fans have a lot to offer here, All Prince music should be archived and his Legacy preserved in full for future generations.".

"FREE THE MUSIC & a better management of the Prince's Legacy (The vault stuff & so on) by The Estate!".

"FREE THE MUSIC.".

"Those most interested must be between 40-60...there really isn't much time left to draw their dollars. This is a business matter, nevermind that he was possibly the greatest artist of our time."

"PRINCE DESERVES MUCH MORE".

happyshopper

For that amout of money they should do so much!!

What happened to the Purple Rain musical? Why not have a performance of that?

You'd want a Parade era live performance by The Revolution as a minimum, and screenings of restored and unseen concerts every day.

Vault track listening parties on all day, maybe a diffenrent era each day.

.

The trouble is, they've done all these things before, and there's little more to do. I think this should be the last "Celebartion" and they should just do events throughout the year, timed with new releases (which they also need to get on with).

And around the world, not just at PP.

there is no need for anything.
But iof we have concrete data like with Kares's petition and one with the opposite then we can show teh Estate that McVillain is just wrong regarding old fans and what we want.

"PRINCE DESERVES MUCH MORE".

there is no need for anything.
But iof we have concrete data like with Kares's petition and one with the opposite then we can show teh Estate that McVillain is just wrong regarding old fans and what we want.

Something like this?

So their choice is to please no one?

With due respect - It's just like... you're trying too hard to defend these folks. It's like you're expecting something out of them or something...

He made a choice, and it failed.

I dare say that the majority of those that clicked the link just gave up when they saw what they had to read through.
This is 100% Kares's fault. He just aimed too high, and used far to many words (mixed with religion).

"Prince’s life mission was to spread the word of God, to spread love, to help others and
touch as many hearts as possible – and this is the message his estate should always
sustain too. This was the primary purpose behind all his music. This is his true legacy.
The music was only the vehicle." - Kares

It doesn't matter that he has edited the above text now. First impression is everything, and the dammage has already been done.

I'm willing to bet it will be alot more than the 120 people that signed Kares's petition.

.
For all the illiterate and downright malicious idiots who chose to spread BS about my petition without actually reading it:

– you saw 'God' mentioned ONCE in the Introduction, and that was enough for you (even though you claim to be a fan of an artist who spent his entire career talking about God) – you didn't even bother to read on, you don't even listen to me whenever I say that NOWHERE in my text I mentioned God or religion again, not once, but you've decided it's all religious text. Okay... smile

– you fail to notice the TITLE (and whole point!) of the petition that clearly states that my aim was/is to ask the Estate to allow input by forming a trust by inviting fanS (notice the plural!) who could act as an advisory board. For the mentally challenged: this means that even you could/could've been chosen to be part of that board and you could veto any of my suggestions and put forward your ideas. Furthermore: whatever suggestion is being made by this board, it could still be rejected/modified by the Estate as they see fit – so there is absolutely no sane reason for anyone not to sign the petition on the basis of disagreement over my ideas. The point is: to ask the Estate to allow fan input. Whatever input by those who are accepted by the Estate. I detailed my suggestions in the paper, but I never said those are the only possible good decisions the Estate could make. In other words: you wouldn't lose anything by signing, but you could gain having a say in the future.

– I don't care if someone isn't interested in reading it, but if you don't, yet you start talking about it, you're only making a fool out of yourself publicly. Congrats.

– If you do read it though, you'd see that my suggestions are: starting a music education program in P's name / utilising Paisley Park for educational purposes too and helping it become a lively place filled with children instead of a VIP club for the wealthy few / starting a conceptual, professionally curated and beautifully designed reissue program for the vault material / publishing the official and complete list of P's works, including his lyrics / etc.

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to find out what you guys mean on doing the "opposite" of the above. Please help me, what would be the "opposite" of starting a music education program? Shooting kids who play music? What's the "opposite" of a conceptual release program for the vault? Blowing it up and destroying it? Please advise.

Oh no, I don't – I'm not surprised people's attention span don't exceed a single sentence.

Go ahead and put up a one-sentence petition for free beer and surely you'll get 12 million signatures.

"What I find really hard to understand is that after I posted the above in 3-4 Prince forums, approximately a thousand people (supposedly ALL of them Prince fans!) read my post to some degree, and out of those 1000 P-fans only 10 signed the petition, and not one initiated a conversation about any of the ideas contained in the white paper. Is this a true indication of the level of interest amongst Prince fans? Of course I don't expect everyone to agree with my ideas and sign the petition, but I do expect at least a conversation." - Kares, 02/09/26
