He comes across as a guy who probably wants to do well but unfortunately he's incompetent and rather than admit that he doesn't know what he's doing he fights back against the very people who are trying to help him by telling him what they want and what they're willing to spend their money on. All these documentaries and musicals and stuff are all well and good but ultimately, Prince fans are mainly interested in hearing Prince music. It's really not a hard concept to grasp.

I think thats a oversimplification because they make enough money selling non-music things to keep the boat afloat. And they don't care about the old fans and there wants, lonny has been more than clear about that.
Prince was really into stage plays and was always writing or plannig things for those things. He even announced his retirement from releasing music in favor of focussing on stage plays in 92/93, didn't happen of course but still.

Get people in there that are not self-serving and padding their pockets while delivering next to nothing.

He's been around since 1996 or so. Old dude didn't just sneak in. Prince invited him.

If fans are supporting such clueless people, then they're clueless, too.

Not to be political, but some Prince fans are like registered voters who vote partylines no matter what.

It seems the estate is fine with making money through mainly movie licensing and apparel. I sure wish they took the approach the Elvis estate takes. Everything looks first class - the fan experience seems unparalleled; everything polished, constant refreshing of brand and musical output (including apparel and brick and mortar concepts. If you didn't know Elvis was already long deceased, you wouldn't be able to tell based on the "freshness" of their constant output.

I'm sure they are making some money doing what they're doing. But they could be making more money if they also released some vault music. They wouldn't have to stop doing any of the musicals or whatever. In fact, there would be a lot less backlash from fans towards these musicals and documentaries if they were thrown a bone every now and then. Having no new releases to look forward to just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. If we had a new vault album released every year they would have a lot more fans on their side and you'd probably even see those other projects more warmly received.

This all makes sense for a flourishing business so the Estate is not interested, because clearly they don't want that or our 'old fan' money. Good luck with getting money from new fans who only stream because they can't afford anything like a physical release and think vinyl is a good medium for music.

Londell, and his buddy Charles, are self-serving assholes who care more about swindling fans and lining their own pockets (with as little effort as possible) than actually preserving Prince's musical legacy.

Prince kicked him out and Lonny smarmed his way into Sharon's mind and palced himself in there again and supposedly (according to Sharon) gave himself and Spicer a bigger cut then what they agreed on.

The worst part is that after Prince's death Lonnie was (in part) responsible for at least two financial disasters: the tribute concert that did not happen, and the failed $31 million deal with UMG.

Even though I was always critical of the Estate's practical failures (basically ALL posthumous releases contain some glitch or error) and though I reacted a little to Mr. McMillan's recent X post (he kinda started it, though), I still believe it's a little hard to hope calling those people names online will help them paying the fans any respect whatsoever.

.

We were told by a certain someone to get organized and send a delegation to the next Celebration, or something in that vein to create a channel. IDK if any such project will ever take place (it seems complicated because too many people disagree on just about everything, and I'm as guilty as anyone else for not working harder on making it happen—I guess except for chitchatting about Prince online for a moment when I wanna take a break to relax, I have other priorities at the moment and many of us are probably in the same situation), but I fear going there and being like "Hi, we're the very people who've been calling you names the whole year online, can we make suggestions?" will not go well.

.

Not to say we should go and suck dicks either, but there's a middle ground between that and namecalling.

Numerous fans have also communicated to them politely and professionally and have still gone ignored. It's clear they have no desire to engage with anything that isn't just unconditional ass-kissing, and they've made zero effort to improve their management in the last three years. So, at this point, the only real hope for change as a Prince fan is that Londell & Charles might someday get fed up with the constant (completely justified) criticism and just resign.

IDK, someone I'd deem reliable said they're open to dialogue but none was attempted that I know of (at least besides individuals sending messages, which I assume is what you mean). That said, you may be right, but my assumption would then be that with 1/ the sense of entitlement on display (which, TBH, I sometimes find awkward) and 2/ the kind of profit likely to be be made in their position, I don't think a few ego bruises will be enough for them to just resign.

Here's the thing for me:

It's not just about making money now.

If the Estate doesnt do a revival QUICK to keep the Prince legacy alive, things might go downhill fast.

I've been happy with the quality of the music (including DVDs), especially D&P.

But we need something else like that to attract new fans now. Almost no young people i ask know who Prince is anymore!

The mainstream radio Prince music is getting old (worn out in people's minds).

They really need to put out something out with video, like a really good PAAM show -- or if that's too advanced for mainstream, another 90s or 2000s - 2010s show that's really excellent with album or something.

Things are too quiet as of late. I fear for PP becoming the "Mafia" of Estates -- run into the ground for money now from selling trivial/non-music things.

They have effectively killed the Prince Estate.

Most importantly, they've killed Prince Legacy & the opportunity to bring to the world the biggest posthumous unrealeased archives that have ever existed.

prince

Anyone claiming it's just a matter of building a fans collective and talking to them is either delusional or just plain ignorant of the nature of the people in charge now. It just takes a close look at everything they've done over the past 10 years to understand what their goal has been right from the start.

prince

And they achieved it - as Malcolm X would say - "by any means necessary".

I was not referring to the white paper you wrote. It's very important that this document exists and i signed the petition though this crucial work should have been done by those in charge of the Estate. Thanks to you for doing the work in their place.

prince

I was referring to those "reliable" trolls claiming that we get what we deserve and that everything that has been happening is because of the fans not getting together and being able to talk as a united voice to LLC. This claim is so plain stupid when you know what has been going on for 10 years.
