I'll be honest, all I want is to be able to buy more unreleased music. Not really interested at all in anything else.

That's where I'm at. We have enough preaching and proselytizing in the world as it is, and that religious stuff isn't what drew me to Prince in the first place. Regardless of his beliefs or whatever "message" he was trying to spread, we wouldn't be here talking about him if he didn't put his energy into making kickass music first and foremost. That's the important part of his legacy.

Here are my thoughts on why few people have signed the petition. This is all meant to be respectful, constructive feedback. If anything comes across as insulting, that is unintentional:

1.) The petition is too long. Few will take the time to read it. A petition should be a statement of intent, not a treatise. The most effective way to convey an idea is to be concise.

2.) The petition is a statement of your own personal beliefs, rather than a reflection of the consensus of fandom. Of course we all want more vault material released, but you went beyond that (for example, the religious stuff). The petition would garner more support if it narrowly focused on the obvious stuff everyone wants, rather than injecting your own personal vision.

3.) Some fans may not sign it because a petition is largely performative. It has no authority. TTC aren't obligated to even read it, let alone act upon it. Petitions are like shouting at the sky. Of course some thoughtful businesses may give petitions weight if they believe they're truly reflective of their customer base, but TTC strike me as the type to respond to a petition with spite, not empathy.

.
Thanks for your remarks. I'll respond to each:
1: yes, I know it's long. (TBH I've already cut it back significantly since I first posted it, but it is still long, I know.) However, I deliberately did not want to make it concise, I didn't want it to be just bulletpoints of ideas, because hundreds of us have already came up with many different ideas over the years and it lead nowhere. Of course this one might not lead anywhere either, but I wanted to try a different approach in (naive?) hopes of perhaps being taken more seriously.

2: I've tried gathering ideas we could find consensus on. I failed, as all others before. I just don't see the chance of finding consensus on things – even on things that Prince clearly found EXTREMELY important, yet many people just shrug it off.
Please explain what you mean on "the religious stuff" in my white paper. As I have pointed out several times above, the main body of text does NOT even mention religion or God. So what is "the religious stuff" you're referring to? I honestly have no clue.

3. It shouting at the sky. Yes. It's a bit like petitioning against glaciers. But what do I lose by trying? I just had to. Again: what do people lose by supporting it? Even if you don't agree with every single one of my suggestions. There's less than zero chance of having ALL my suggestions accepted and implemented anyway, so what do you lose by supporting a proposal that, in the best scenario, will only be accepted partially.

AND let's not forget that last summer McMillan and Spicer actually ASKED for fan feedback and promised that they'll listen. So I think it'd be foolish to let that opportunity go by without even trying.

So can you please explain what is "the religious stuff" you're referring to? Or just admit you haven't even read it?

I rarely post on here at all. But I wanted to say that your ideas for releases are the best I've heard in a long time.

A unified format, designed for collectors, yet being able to be released in any order? Why they haven't done this so far is anybody's guess.

While I do like the SDEs, I think they're a little overblown and crammed with a fair bit of unrelated material, or tangential at best. Your idea paves the way for a lot more freedom, and price points open to may more people.

Well done.

Thank you.
Yes, I think all of the releases (single or double CD releases and CD box sets, as well as limited edition LP-replica CDs and even BluRays etc) could be released as a consistent-format series – and for this format I suggest the 7" size packaging. Although 7" size packaging for normal CDs is used in Japan for limited releases, AFAIK it has never been used as a standard for any series yet, so it could be a unique, yet familiar format for the official Prince series and everything would fit nicely on the same shelf and consistent-looking numbering and repeated graphic elements on the spines would make it all look amazing too.
.
I know packaging is not something most people focus on, but as a former marketing professional with experience in graphic design and product design too, I am confident that a great design and official numbering both help sales too.
