Which brings us back to the beating the dead horse, who by now is just dust pressed a few feet into the ground : curating Prince's Work in a proper manner, so as to communicate the real extent of his musicianship.
But maybe that boat has sinked, as there's serious chance the very meaning of what it is to become a musician totally eludes the mind of the alpha generation, save for a few sons of the bourgeoisie who are given the luxury of time and means to pursue the craft.
I came across the video of a bass player, which I found one of the most interesting takes about the current mindset about AI-generated music. He did a survey on Reddit, and the responses he received are chilling.
It's long, but do yourself a favour and watch it in bites if you must, as the second part explores the accelerationist mindset of the tech bros, and gives a terryfing summary of the psychopathy at work, which extends way beyond art.

. Thank you for these links – I'm listening right now. Great stuff. Actually, it's also deeply moving, and it gives me thoughts I can use in something I'm working on. Thanks again.

Watched the first 6 minutes of the video and I 100% agree woith that guy, that Suno guy can go get himself fucked by some AI generated BBC, so no need to see more. Ai music sucks and will always feel empty and lifeless. As a guitarist who has been in a plethora of hobby bands for the last 40 years I can't imagine any fun in having to 'engage' in a record I bought any other way then to listen and enjoy or not, the music and my experience won't be any better if I have to 'actively' engage with it in some other way then just listening and experienceing it. Let the kids play with there nonesense AI music, I'm to old and have heard to many real atrists and music to have any respect for AI generated nonsense. What's next hanging some etch a sketch nonsense in the Louvre and pretend it's 'art'??

I always felt that way about those 2 performances, too. But as I said many times, Europeans, Urban America and funkateers were not the target audience. Those performances were aimed at rockers and White Middle America. It obviously worked. |

.
Prince's halftime show has that huge wow-factor going for it from the start: the rain, and the fact that they (well, most of them) are playing live. That's already enough for a lot of folks to declare it to be the greatest ever. And of course most never seen Prince live before, so they are unaware that he used to be even better than that.
But as Frank said: you can't do that on stage anymore. |

How bad are the other half time shows? That's actually an interesting question. Now that you bring it up, Prince's one is the only one that I've seen that I actually thought was any good. Having said that, I've only seen about 5 or 6 of them. Prince's one is definitely the best. The only other one I even half enjoyed was the Justin Timberlake one. And even then I thought the performance itself was kind of shit but I like most of the songs he played. The Michael Jackson one was a major disappointment to me. I'd always heard people say how great it was and then I checked it out for myself and I don't think his microphone was on for even 10% of it. So yeah, you might say it's mediocre but Prince probably does have the best half time show. |
