Prince songs you think would appeal to a younger audience besides Purple Rain, When Doves cry.

What are other Prince songs, you think would have the same effect Purple Rain and When doves Cry did with the youth. After Stranger Things aired, all the kids were on Tik tok using those songs and talking about how much they moved them.

Prince's music is timeless and can easily move kids. I am a teacher and I often play (school appropriate) Prince music whilst kids are working and they are into it. Kids these days are less critical/picky about music made before their time. In fact, a lot of Prince's music sounds current as people these days emulate his sound/style.

Sometimes it snows in Apri. She's always in my hair. Maybe the Exodus stuff.
My ex was 10 years younger than me when we dated and I snuck in a few tracks off of News into her Cirque du Soleil playlist because I knew she didn't like Prince at all but still wanted to introduce him to her. Sure enough about halfway into West she goes "who is this? It's really good!I really like it!" "I said it's Prince!" "She said no way!" "I said way!" To this day she now quotes obscure Prince lyrics to me whenever we text on social media lol.

ANY of the sex songs--if you know what I mean--and angsty ones for teens because those kind of ears are curious about that subject and feeling those emotions! IMO, generally the songs of Art Official Age and Hit n Run Phase One are designed for younger ears. Stick those kind in the algorithms and jukeboxes.

That's always a tough one. Good music is good music. Generally, playing some more hip hop-style songs to someone who is into hip hop, for example, is often less effective than just starting with some classics.

.

On the other hand, one musician friend became a huge Prince fan after I played him The Rainbow Children, another found his way through P. Control and for me it was the Emancipation album (having already known the hits and some albums over the years).

.

I reckon it's a bit of a lottery. Although it feels like a challenge. A 10 song selection (after PR and WDC) to attract a young listener...

.
[list]

[*]Little Red Corvette

[*]Gett Off

[*]Gold

[*]Kiss

[*]Sometimes It Snows In April

[*]One Kiss At A Time

[*]Endorphinmachine

[*]Colonized Mind

[*]Breakdown

[*]If I Was U're Girlfriend

.

But you could probably do 10 entirely different lists that could be just as effective.

When my son was a bit younger (like 4 or 5 years old) he used to love it when my cousin would play Sexy Dancer, Let's Work and those kind of very early 80s dance songs that go heavy on the synths. Now that he's a bit older (he'll be 13 this year) he doesn't like those songs anymore because they sound "old". He does however really like Fury, Cinnamon Girl and Dreamer. That era of guitar heavy songs. He liked that song Screwdriver as well. In fact, he's been flirting with the idea of trying to learn to play guitar, partly thanks to Prince.

When my oldest daughter was about 5 or 6 she really liked Crystal Ball and Teacher, Teacher go figure (oblivious to the meanings of course). Nowadays she likes classics like Kiss and Purple Rain. My youngest doesn't know much about Prince. Probably my fault because I'm usually playing jazz in the car these days.
