"fly on the wall" recording?

It's probably been discussed before lol
Mine is the extended part of "Kiss"!
This had to be all Prince except for the horns...

Welcome to "the org", nayroo2002… life, it ain't real funky unless it's got that pop

Who was the female voice at the end?? Cat??
I would have loved to have seen him either performed the solo at the end of I'm yours or watch him record the first three or four tracks of Parade.

Definitely FREE URSELF

I’d love to see that entire session including where he was when he first wrote the song (like maybe on the piano first? Guitar? Etc)

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe those are real horns. I think Prince used a synth for that part. But I'm happy to be corrected.

During the Parade era, his production choices were often a mix of real horns and synth stabs, which can confuse the ear.

"Kiss Extended" has a prominence of synth horns at the start, but they're gradually mixed with ducked real horns (in real "Kiss" fashion, as David Z's ducking process makes for the whole sonic novelty, the guitar being triggered by the hi-hat). The ducking glues the real horns to the synth stabs, making them sound like a single source.

At the time, samplers were very basic (even the glorious, insanely expensive Fairlight and Synclavier are a joke compared to the tools we have now). Horns have been the most difficult instruments to properly synthesize or sample, until recently.

@5:12, it's of course Eric walking a few steps with his barytone sax.

All of them of course, but I would have loved to be there for the quirkiest ones.

Like "Tamborine", from the insane bass to the frantic drums to the crazy vocals,
it musta been a festival of funk faces, a truly hilarious experience.

As I sit and listen to dreamer between the speakers right now, I think that'd be a fun one.
