Prince’s Christopher Tracy, Willem Dafoe’s Bobby Peru An obscenely uncharitable comparison, but rewatching David Lynch’s Wild at Heart in cinema the other week I was struck by a certain likeness in the two performances. Sure, Bobby Peru is a wretch of a chatacter, but he shares Tracy’s arrogance, he teases out his words as though there’s some (possibly darker) flirtatious implication in everything he says, saunters round like a bantom-cock. Sure, one of those performances is infinitely better and Prince would never take on such a character, but it did have me wondering for a moment ‘what if Prince had played Bobby Peru?’. Who knows, maybe Prince would have jumped the oppertunity, we know he loved Eraserhead. Hundalasiliah! | |
