And there is, indeed, a lot of reasons why AGI won't be developed in the next few decades: people are going to claim back fresh water and energy for their own lives.

That's not "a lot of reasons". That's one single argument and not a particularly good one, in my opinion. Think about it this way: a human brain consumes about 20 watts of power. We're currently using overly-complex AI models that need a lot of power (and water and non-renewable resources, etc.). It won't always be so.

To think that AI will somehow break the first rule of thermodynamics is an illusion, just like fusion.
These systems swallow more energy than they spit out.

AI just mashes and remixes data that is already available. It doesn't magically come up with new ideas. The much vaunted optimizations we've seen so far are marginal.

Machine learning just accelerates data processing, therefore protoyping, that's all it does. The so-called progress in medecine are just a by-product of faster analysis on gigantic datasets.
You certainly won't get a prescient Einstein out of the blue, AI is an effing data churning machine.

AI slop looks very impressive, but it's just a remix and rearrangement of all the petabytes of data that go into the models.

AGI is a sci-fi dream, a poster for techno-optimists to wank on, nothing more than an alibi for the accelarationists psychopaths to realize their dreams of destruction.

Pay attention to their ideology, Thiel being the most obvious offender.

Last but not least, capitalism did flourish on intellectual property. To shit on it like all those thieves did when they stole everyone and everything, means killing the very source it relies on.

WTF are you talking about? Oh, never mind.

Exactly. You don't know what you're talking about.
Go educate yourself.

I don't think people know or understand that these commercial A.I.'s were arouind 10 years ago and the devs have a 10 year headstart from us lowly users and are using A.I. versions much more advanced than what is currently out there.

Not saying you're wrong but look at that new AI Coke ad. You can tell it's AI from a mile off. Nothing about it looks in any way natural and if this is the results from a company that has had a 10 year headstart then I'm even less impressed than I was before. And I didn't even think that was possible.

I'm talking about tech businesses using there in-house verisons of A.I. that's a decadde ahead and unrestricted. Not talkig about the nonsense commercial A.I. versiojns of it that some coke company or any other commercial company uses.

Ah, I see.
