Thanks to Vannormal, I was able to see it. Not that bad, but not that good either. It doesn't look 4K to me, and at times the live footage reminds me of an amateur who has colourised black and white film.

I have my comments on the video :

Too amateurish.

-

Come on, opening and closing an LP cover?

A lady in a cheap cloud suit (not well fitting) bustin' her booty?

The low-key movements to bring alive the album cover figures...

How hard is it to make that better.

Having their mouths moved by low-key programming, yeah one can say it's 1985-ish style. Really?

Old tv sets...

The live material looks unpolished, even the colours are not made brighter.

Prince's paisley costume on a manequin and his shoes and ruffles shirt close ups?

Studio equiment, like a fLoating Linn drum machine above a bath tub?

-

The only fun thing, it brings back memories, and takes us back in time.

And the fact we get so little, it makes us feel happy to get at least something.

But it's all so thin and little.

Couldve been done better with AI. Used in the right way.

Like Bart says, no (end) credits even, only 'Prince and The Revolution'. Which isn't completely true concerning the video production result.

Anyway, imo of course.

Maybe they removed the credits for the video to protect the guy who made it from facing criticism online because they knew it was a crap video.

But, as crap as it is,.at least it's not A.I. Because then it would have been crap AND soulless.

Wait a minute...in the "Pop Life" video, there are snippets of the First Avenue 86' gig.
I never saw "Pop Life" pro shot (from the audience : yes) from the Zénith (my first concert by the way).

I think some bits of it definitely are made with AI.
In fairness, I think most ordinary folk can no longer tell.

You can always tell when they use AI humans. They always look fucking weird. Have you seen what they've done with the Christmas Coke ad? It's an abomination. Really horrific stuff. They should be ashamed of themselves for that atrocity. I'm boycotting Coca Cola because of it*

*I never drink Coca Cola or any of their products anyway, so it's an easy boycott lol

When the estate video was posted to only the US someone else streamed the remixed and remastered Pop Life from Zenith 86 on a 'members only' Facebook group and small Discord servers with only european old schoolers, until yesterday, it was taken down an hour before the estate video started to show up outside of the US.

Haha yeah that stuff is super uncanny looking, so bad!
But for stylised stuff like the ATWIAD artwork and the Pop Life video, there are loads of areas where I think AI was used in a way you'd barely notice. It's really going that way, I work in that field so I have a bit of an eye for it

Probably worth keeping in mind that even Prince himself wasn’t good at videos! Mostly just performing the song with the band, with various stages or backdrops. He rarely did anything clever of conceptual. (Kiss and I Wish U Heaven are probably the exception, and they’re still basically him just singing it, just with a good Director!)

I always thought the single shot video for Dolphin was pretty cool.

AGI will replace everyone, anyway. Andrej Karpathy says in 10 years. Ilya Sutskever says in 5-20 years. Things will get crazy, believe me.

There should have been two videos released last week.

1) a lyric video (all the cool kids are doin' it dontcha know?) and use all the album cover animation for it; make it cutsie or whatever but just let it be that animation and the lyrics (think of all the colors and fonts to use).

2) use that one Parade show in the video either as a live cut; OR compile "Pop Life" from different Parade shows and overdub with the album version (or at least one good take from the tour that has good audio). There has to be good audio and video - enough of both - to make a great live video of some sort for the song.

But Spicer & McMillian thought eh - let's fuck it up in a bad way and hype it.

You're talking about the guys whose big marketing ideas include posting videos of the tour guides from paisley park expressing their appreciation for the album (I mean, no offense Bee, but who gives af what YOU think) and leaving the front page of their retail website bannered with a pre-order link for a 2 year old release...geniuses they most certainly are not. It's all so goddamn unprofessional and embarrassing.

Didn't McMillan swindle Sharon and Norrine out of their share of the estate?
