It sounds good..not as good as America and Paisley Park, but light years ahead of what we had.

I always thought this mix of this track was underrated. I honestly can't tell the difference between the original and this new remaster back to backing them on headphones, but I am enjoying it☺️

So, something I've always noticed about this song. Every day when I awake, the greatest of joys is mine: that of being ME.

Absolutely love this song. So it has many great moments and they don't stop, from the intro, chicken scratch guitar, the ending, the vocal arrangements, Jill on background! I will take my place, In the great below

. I know it is a good track. I bought it in '80s, and I bought it again in digital in '00. But I have little little interest in buy it again in '20. Sorry

I had never heard the cool bass playing in this song. Btw, is his opening guitar sped up??

Definitely sped and pitched up.

Yes it;'s the old Prince trick (like the Camille vocals) of slowing the tape way down when recording the guitar, and then when it is played back at normal speed it sounds weird and extra-funky. You can hear it on other tracks like Erotic City. That's talent on steroids. PIPS! Eurgh...

Really cool song, loved it immediately when it was released... quite personal lyrics, Prince being fed-up with all the outside critique of being weird and not contributing to USAaid for Africa.
And of course a cool grooooove [Edited 11/10/25 11:13am]

The Publison was released in 1984 so it’s possible Prince started using it around then but https://www.guitarcloud.o...l-machine/ suggests it was first used for Sign O’ The Times sessions. There may or may not be something coming!

Whatever the equipment used, the bottom line is that it was recorded at one speed and played back at a much higher speed and pitch. Guitar (or bass) don't sound like that, should be obvious to anyone.
