IF they will be able to open a new NPGMC, I'll be happy IF:

1- no streaming-only music, but flac download (like Peter Gabriel in Bandcamp)

2- solid releases with good mastering

3- a rich offering of unreleased material

4- a reasonable price

.

I don't know why, but I fear it will be very difficult for even just two of these options to come true

Call me a cynic but IMO...

1) Seems unlikely

.

Why? They're already releasing music through Qobuz and other such sites.

Also worth pointing out that it probably won't be called the NPG music club, unless that lawsuit with Nature Group has been resolved. smile

That new NPGMC would be insanely priced so everyone should get a free tambourine as a welcome gift.

Once I bought a tambourine at Paisley Park and they offered a hat box for it. Seriously

I guess Bandcamp has a kind of "small/struggling band" vibe.

But it would be ideal, I think. Release more obscure vault stuff on Bandcamp. Release mainstream stuff on all the other platforms.

wouldn't surprise me if they charge $77 a month or $777 a year so we can stream already released material or even worse mixes by some nobody 'DJ' or some outside ear cancer creating hip producer. Just more shit to ignore and boycot.

The difference, if I'm not mistaken, is Qobuz is included in aggregator packages alongside YT, Spotify, Deezer, etc., when Bandcamp doesn't allow this, so you have to create your own account and upload your material specifically there (and I think you have to be an indie artist or label, I don't think they allow majors to upload their shit).

The fact that Peter Gabriel of all people is there shows that even high profile artists can benefit from the service.

Now IDK what the deal is with WB and Sony, whether the Estate is allowed to release stuff independently or what, but I guess if they haven't brushed the idea of an online service aside altogether, they're not ties byy some exclusive deal?

There's half a dozen soundtrack albums by Trent Reznot, including this: https://trentreznor-attic...inal-score

Could be old news but just noticed Blue Limousine and Players Ball up on Spotify. Is this new? Is this a sign?

I reckon Bancdcamp is a great platform.

Yeah, I agree with you 100%

You list what I'd want from it and youu also match my lack of optimism

Bandcamp is a proven system that does work. But I suspect the Estate think they're too good for it and if they ever do this, they'll want to come up with their own platform, which is totally unnecessary and will probably bring lots of unnecessary technical issues...

God, you're right. Here's the infrastructure to do something amazing and its easy to customize your site but instead some friend with a basic knowledge of web design will over promise and under deliver to the estate then the plug gets pulled within 12 months sad
