On the other hand, now that those tracks are out, don't expect other leaks. They were compiled by the previous Estate. And they were circulating among some fans for more than a year.

work in progress versions for more definitive ones and add a couple of tracks like for
instance "I Wonder", "Player", "Qualified", i'm sure they'd not lose out due to this now
being leaked, if anything it's a nice promo for if they would release better sounding
files and versions.

but i'm quite sure we will suffer for this leak in the long run, sadly, since they will now
find a way to make this all about not releasing anything soon.

Q - does this version of Love 2 The 9's have a point of difference? I haven't heard the majority of these trax so I'm intrigued. Any gems?

I still find it amazing that they won't release the Purple Rain SDE, despite having the musical
as a great way to promote it a bit more. Instead a random reissue of ATWIAD with no extras.

Having said that, I doubt this musical will be much of promotion for anything, judging from the
first set of preliminary reviews.

in fact, instead of throwing a huge fit, which is what will likely happen, the people in charge
of officially releasing music could now test the waters in an ultimate way by putting all of it
online in this supposed "new npgmc" and see what happens.

i'm quite sure that of the 800 or so people who downloaded this set by now, about 90% are
willing and able and jumping at the bit to buy them in better quality with some extra's or a
few more developed versions.

that plus all the people, the majority of prince fans I would say, who don't crawl the gutters
of the internet for leaks.

it would be a good way to test how much impact a leak like this has on potential future sales
and at the same time a nice way to test a new npgmc and roll out some sort of new store.

in the end it would be nice if this leak just causes some movement somewhere and we can
go forward with a model that works for everyone.

i'm just not understanding why there is no new music from the estate.

do they really seriously think that the majority of fans is content and happy with the single
"free (acoustic)" that they put on streaming?

it's time to throw some stuff at the wall to see what works instead of continuing to focus on
small reprints on coloured lp. obviously that works somewhat for them but why not test the
waters for bigger and more substantial ways of getting the music out there?

But it's the weakest collection of outtakes i heard so far.

READ THE THREAD. There tracks have been circulating for at least a year, likely even longer. They just now happened to get in the hands of someone who simply leaked them. To see this as an omen of the estate releasing them is ridiculous.

Real: I do think these NEED to be released just like everything else NEEDS to be released. Like, it doesn't have to be soon, but just cause they got out doesn't "disqualify" them from official release. And no I don't think they need to be released in this hodgepodge SDE config form either, but the tracks themselves yeah it'd be a shame if stuff like Face 2 Face and Baby Doll never got official releases.

Unbelievable. I'm getting more and more the impression that the outtakes they omitted from the set are better than the ones they included. Whoever leaked those songs is my hero of the year.

I was among the happy fews who already had been entrusted with this collection, but I wasn't allowed to share it. I'm glad it's finally out there: it's a really strong selection, much better than the D&P outtakes IMHO — and the people I knew who also had it seemed to share this opinion.

That said, what a lost opportunity for the Estate: they could have released it and cashed on it, even just digitally if they weren't going to put out a fancy SDE, and now it's out there without their involvement

Out of interest, why were you not "allowed" to share it? Also, why would anyone want to prevent you from sharing it with the wider community? And why couldn't they have shared it themselves? I'll make you all a deal. If I ever get my grubby little mitts on anything that was previously unleaked, I'll share it with you all.

It's always the same: if you're asked not to share something, you don't share it, hoping that in the future you will be able to receive more uncirculating material.
