New leak: the Prince version of "The Halls Of Desire".

The Halls Of Desire is the fourth track (third song) on Tevin Campbell’s second album I’m Ready, and, in 1994, The Halls Of Desire was available as single in some territories (in Germany as a promotional single, in Japan as an EP and in Australia as a maxi-single). It was released shortly before the album’s final single, Don’t Say Goodbye Girl, which also contained remixes of The Halls Of Desire. The song was written and produced by Prince under the pseudonym Paisley Park.

While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in September 1992 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (along with Down, Holly Don’t Care, The P, Paris 1798430, Uncle Sam and a revamped version of Shhh, when Prince became involved in Tevin Campbell’s album I’m Ready).

Prince’s version (guide vocal) of The Halls Of Desire was one of the Vault tracks recorded between 1990 and 1992 slated to appear on the planned Diamonds & Love expected to be released by The Prince Estate in the summer of 2022. That project, which consisted of material spanning both the Diamonds And Pearls and Symbol eras, was reduced to the Diamonds And Pearls era, excluding songs recorded after October 1991 (and this track as a result).

It's Prince picking up on trends, but as a song it's good. I never got into Tevin's version much. I think this sort of sound is the closest Prince got to New Jack Swing without officially getting into NJS.

Much better than other outtakes from that era, too.

I hope everything leaks since the estate seems to have no interest in releasing the SDE.

To be honest, it's not a tracklist that drives me crazy, but now that the Estate has completely abandoned the project, a complete leak of the songs would be an appreciated gesture.

Let’s see. If the Estate are so distracted by their PR musical, and don’t have anything else prepared, then most of the money and time has already been spent on this, so an easy release with little effort.

What boggles my mind is that, at least, a 2-LP reissue and a 4-LP deluxe edition of the album was actually manufactured (by the pictures of the copies that leaked these were fully finished product in shrink wrap), so it's more than likely that the SDE was manufactured as well.

And that stock just ready to be distributed and sold is somewhere blocked collecting dust! ...I just don't get it.

I have a feeling that these may have been produced at the time when there would have been the 2 albums and a joint SDE. Only the D&P album got released and the SDE got reduced. So there’s currently no standalone Love Symbol SDE sat in a warehouse, but they would have the files ready to make one (unless changes are needed).

You'd be totally right, but still doesn't add up to have the standard and "simple" deluxe edition manufactured and ready to go blocked @ some distributor's warehouse for YEARS already. What a waste!

I wanted to like this song, but for me it's pretty boring. Sound like Prince had one lyric idea -- hmm the Halls of Desire, that sounds kinda sexy cool -- and tried to jam with it until it turned into something more. It didn't.
