Alphabet Street maxi single

Both the album version and extended version have the same time of 5:40. What is the difference between the two. They sound the same to me.

The Alphabet St. maxi-single had the album version on Side A (which is probably what you listened to).

Side B was an extended, mostly-instrumental version called "Alphabet St. (This Is Not Music, This Is A Trip)". It's 7:48 long. That's what you're looking for.

Teh promo CD has the 5:38 Album version and a 5:40 Extended version, but I think they are the same. it also has edit version (the radio/video version) and the 7:48 This is not music this is a trip version.I don't think there was ever a 'Extended Version' released on the commercial singles and it's only available on the promo CD.

Thanks for that clarification. I might have looked at the tracklisting with the times wrong. However, the songs do sound the same.

As others pointged out, they're one and the same.

However, there's a version with a fade out on a promo version of the album that, for some reason, isn't listed yet on Princevault.

It wasn't too uncommon to see "Extended Version" on a single, just for it to be the lp version. If I remember right, when the LoveSexy "Worktape" leaked, it featured a longer version of Alphabet St, with the "ABCDEFG God I love you, can't you see" lyric.

I believe Europian releases were a second or two shorter as the records pressed this way, as Europeans preferred their music faster.

I have US and UK adn GErman pressings of the same albums and they are the same, not faster or anything, just exactly the same.
