Sign 'O' The Times in IMAX Who went to see Sign 'O' The Times in IMAX? I didn't get to go here in Seattle (despite the theater being less than 2 miles away), but those who made it to their local theater have raved about it in every regard (sound, seeing it on the big screen again, etc). Seen it here in Brussels on the opening night, was blown away, again. Venue was half full. To me, the non-live storyline-recordings with Cat seemed very unpolished and grainy, while the rest looked pretty good. Or maybe it's just me. Saw it here in the Bay Area on opening night. Saw at my local AMC Theatre where we got a collectible concert ticket. Great sound and picture quality. Nice seeing prince fans wearing shirts and clapping after each song. 2025 was a great year to see Purple Rain and Sign "O" the Times on the big screen

Saw it in San Diego. There weren't many ppl but they enjoyed it. It was my 1st seeing it in theater and I truly enjoyed it. [Edited 9/9/25 21:40pm] Time keeps on slipping into the future...

I could not help but feel how dated this movie/concert somehow is. Great concert movie! Don't get me wrong. But as time moved on, concerts these days are very different, and not necessarily worse or less. Prince's live performances from 1987 have something James-Brown-Live-ish to it, that's what I felt when it was done. More than ever before. Now I see more clearly (after all these decades. Bash me if you want. It's just a feeling I was left with when I came out of the theater. It didn't give me the overwhelming magic it gave me in 1987. But again, fun to see once more. We tend to forget that. And, eactly, it's about time we have a real full show. Including an aftershow. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

I saw it at the big BFI IMAX in London. It sounded great, but U Got The Look was still just upresed and looked crap compared to the rest of the film. (Much more noticible than it was on VHS in the 80s!

It was awesome seeing it on IMAX but after recently seeing the spectacular remasters of Stop Making Sense and Live At Pompeii, I couldn’t help wishing this could have had some similar TLC.
Some sort of surround sound mix and a visual clean up would have been great. "You know, you're the classic example of the inverse ratio between the size of the mouth and the size of the brain"

It was supposed to be in Dolby Atmos. Did that not happen at the theatre you were in? [Edited 9/12/25 20:55pm]

According to LeRoy Bennett there is one.
On your knowledge which are the concerts that were professionally filmed (multicamera, post-production etc…) that can be easily released if people in charge make the right decisions? There’s Purple Rain broadcast (not my favorite), Sign O’ The Times (which unfortunately didn’t contain what we filmed live but still gave you a feel of the show. Apparently the actual footage of the live show looks amazing. Hopefully I will see that soon), and LoveSexy. Those were the only 3 while I was working with Prince.

There's no reason to not believe there is a full version somewhere. Prince taped everything. Was it edited for the purpose of promoting the album? Of course, but the whole show exists somewhere. At least on audio. Every day when I awake, the greatest of joys is mine: that of being ME.

According to a previous thread, there are two proshot Lovesexy concerts in addition to the one at Dortmund.

Up to and including the PR tour, he was more or less running on his own steam, the influences from others were mostly contemporary. After that though, you could see more older influences. Idk if I'd say it was derivative though, or just a clear sum of his many parts. Yeah you can see and hear JB in housequake, but did JB ever make a song like that? Nope (mutiny on the 86 tour was way more classically job but prince always put his personality into it which made it diff). And there's nothing JB about sott, icnttooym etc. You could say Hendrix but even then, nah. Prince did his own thing with it. [Edited 9/21/25 8:34am]
