Just for my understanding... this is basically the same recording as was used for the SOTT movie, isn't it? But without studio overdubs? Can someone confirm?

The most interesting thing about this release is that it indicates that a problem the previous estate had when compiling the SOTT SDE -- that they could not touch anything related to the SOTT movie, because those materials were in some legal limbo (see quote in https://prince.org/msg/7/471652 ) -- has now been resolved.

But now that the estate apparently has solved the legal hassle, as you rightfully observe, this may open perspectives for the future.

It sounds PHENOMENAL.

I just want to kiss on the mouth, tongue and all, the mix and mastering engineers responsible for this.
This is exactly, precisely, decibel for decibel, the atmosphere you got from a SOTT show.
Now everyone can get a whiff of what an apocalyptic concert intro, and the amazing experience it was for the lucky ones who were there.

The drawback being than now, every single soundboard recording of the SOTT tour, including the one they put in the Deluxe Edition, sounds like shit.

If there is one thing AI is good for (it's not good for much, quite the opposite), is image treatment. It would be fantastic to get the original Rotterdam shots and save them with AI.
And they would have to be long range shots. We have enough prima donna close shots with the movie, thank you.
That's why the PR Syracuse show doesn't get old, it's the wide shots that are immersive. Rewatching SOTT, it's disappointing how few they are.

For all the (deserved) praise the movie gets, this cruelly reveals how much artifices were added to make it one giant music video. This goes for the bone and stays true to what it was.
People need to experience what an out-of-this-world experience the SOTT concerts were, and at last, if only for one song, we have an audio release that's faithful to it.

It irks me to say it, but I applaud the Estate for this one until my palms hurt. If only this could be an indication that from now on, things are going to be handled in such an artistic manner.

Even the visual is perfect (way better than the same shot included in the SDE booklet).

Bravo to everyone involved.

Now thinking of it.. I remember that during the Utrecht SOTT concert, some sound effects came rolling over the audience from backwards in the arena to the front. So quadraphonic! That was really an overwelming experience (together with the audience "wave" prior to the concert and the flashing of lighters during some songs)! So we got atmos 0.0 back then biggrin

A really nice mix by Chris James. The only complaint is the snare, which sounds nerfed down when you compare it to the audio of the movie, and the rest of the SBD and AUD recordings of the SOTT tour.

Would be cool if we got the whole show released in the near future.
