Any Prince Being Taught Choreography Footage?

Is there any footage of the video choreographers teaching Prince the choreography routine for the videos.

I can't even imagine him having to watch and learn and mimic something he personally did not come up with.

I would love to see Prince learning the choreography for the Batdance video - that one does not look like it was done by him, at least to me (?)

Even the Cream video - I don't know why I assumed that someone else choreographed this one too)

Just wonderin'

Damon talked about the Game Boyz teaching him some moves and how he was a fast learner but there's no footage.

I think the only footage that some have are of him in some denim getup in a mirror ballet room with some instructor during the Purple Rain era.
I think Big CHick's wife auctioned of a tape of this some years ago (I've on ly seen stills not teh video)

I have a feeling everyone rehearsed, and then Prince just walked on set, watched, and then did his thing.

A few takes and done.

I wonder if he also rehearsed the dance routines alongh witg The Revolution and the choreograph or if he did so alone with just the choreograph like in the video and then indeed just walked on set did hid thing flawlessly with them in a few takes

He never really had big choreography numbers like MJ/Madonna (live or in his videos) so probably not?

There is a video in circulation of him in a dark room at Paisley Park with the ceiling fan on while he rehearses dance routines to Lemon Crush and Scandalous

uhhhhh Prince dancing to Lemon Crush is something I have GOT to see!

yeah, I agree with the general idea that Prince did not have overly choreographed numbers like MJ/Madonna....

I think he worked it out in his head and then just did it for most of the videos...

But Batdance has a lot of 'group choreography' that had to be rehearsed as a group at least once...

To see him rehearsing with all those Kim Basingers!

AARGH!

Pray tgo the Estate or those that gatekeep this stuff from us because "we are all bootleggers".
ONly a small circle has this video and the ones with Cat doing dance routines with Prince during SOTT and Lovesexy reharsals, our only very small chance to see these things is if the Estate release them oin some form, but they probably won't.
The footage of him dancing at Paisley Park with Lemon Crush and Scandalous was available in the 90s on a bootleg video tape but for some years now a slightly cleaner rip is going around but not shared widely.

yeah, lol no lol
a better but less complete version is floating around digitaly, let them share it.
The VHS copy isn't all that good and I'm not gonna drop a even worse quality of it or take take time to make that.
It;s a common bootleg VHS so there are most likely people in here who could digtize there VHS tape I think.

This myth of the ex-nihilo genius is hard to shake among the hardcore purple zealots...

Of course he took lessons of some kind. The Capri debacle forced him to do so (probably at the request of Warner Bros as well), and he probably learned some extra stuff during 1983.

You'll see a clear progression in his stage presence if you watch a 1980, then a 1981, then a 1982 concert.

And then a HUGE jump in quality for the Purple Rain movie and tour. It would be interesting to spot the first shot of his infamous split-and-back-on-my-feet.

Prince being Prince, it's hard to estimate precisely how much training or courses he had to take to come up with his own signature moves, but you can bet yo ass he learned some shit and put a lot of practice into it, just as Chris Moon taught him about using gear, Owen Husney how to move in the business, and so on.

You have to start somewhere. Subsequently, it was of course all its own, as his sometimes poor business decisions proved (Mo Ostin and Alan Leeds supported him as far as they could).

Preparing the SOTT Tour, he instructed his guitar tech to go after Neil Young's sound (the distorted one, probably taking inspiration from the Crazy Horse's "Rust Never Sleeps" era).

Prince loved for us to believe everything about him was coming out of the blue, I mean purple, but those who have practiced any art know it ain't so.

There was even an org thread about a famous vocal trainer, who basically trained everyone in the US show-business, from Michael Jackson to Aretha Franklin, and her long clients list included SKipper, which probably explains how he came to be the most brilliant live singer there is.

This young man with a talented soul died when he wanted 2

I thought everyone knew Prince had taken some ballet classes sometime in the early 80's.

Also, when ppl asked him about his workout routines, he said he didn't have any and that the stage was enough but I know people who said they used to see him at the gym in minneaopolis (early 80's).

Everyone did know, because he employed choreographers for every tour since Controversy according to some and I guess most fans have seen the dance routines bootleg videos with Cat from SOTT and Lovesexy, it wasn't exactly a secret, plus the stories from teh Purple Rain set with the Jazz ballet teacher lol from the bandmembers and The Time. Paisley Park had a gym setup where he trained.
Joel Bernstein said that for SOTT and Lovesexy tours he had contact with Ted Nugent's guitar tech to mimic his sound. Cool to hear that he also checked Neil Young!
