Your Bottom 10 Albums Right Now

Of course, it'd be easy to say the V.B.O.P, N.E.W.S., C-Note and his other more "obscure" releases, so I'll stick with the somewhat more proper releases.

Not to say that they're bad, but just not the thing you'd go back to and listen to the whole abit.

In no particular order:

1. The whole Lotusflower/MPLS package

2. Musicology

3. Wlecome 2 America

4. Plectrumelectrum

5. 3121

6. Diamonds and Pearls

7. The Vault

8. Piano and a Microphone

9. Chocolate Invasion/The Slaughterhouse

10. New Power Soul

Bonus

11. Sign O The Times - just never got into the album proper even though there are outstanding tracks on it. And definitely love love the Special Edition

Y'all?

It's okay to have different tastes, but this is something else.

The truth is I NEVER got into the album as a whole. Things like "Slow Love,' "It" and "Hot Thing" seems so generic like he's not even trying...and the title track and "Starfish and Coffee" strike me as a bit...corny.

I realize, in some circles, it's sacrilege to not think "Sign O The Times" is the greatest thing ever, but to me, it sounds like what it is, a bunch of songs thrown together; some great and some not so great.

I would much, much rather listen to the outtakes than the album proper.

Rough

1. Chaos and Disorder (stupid RnR / Bluesrock - sounded so dated in 1996 and sounds even more dated now)

2. Planet Earth (what a bore. about half a good song on it (The One u wanna see)

3. Gold Experience (plastic production. The cover is so incredible ugly that I can't hear the music)

4. Come (Dark and Letitgo are okay)

5. Graffitti Bridge (studid movie, stupid artwork. We can Funk is a masterpiece and of course I really like The Question Of U, but that's about it)

6. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (soo boring. Can't remeber one song on it)

7. Batman (Trust and Lemon Crush might be the worst Prince songs ever)

8. One NIte Alone... (idea is good, but not one remarkable song)

9. Lotusflower (should rock, but the production and mixing were so flat I fall asleep)

10. HitnRun Phase 1 (not a Prince production, so...)

I can't pick 10, but the 8 albums I rarely listen to are:

1. Prince

2. For You

3. Dirty Mind

4. One Nite Alone… Live!

5. N.E.W.S.

6. LotusFlow3r

7. PlectumElectrum

8. HITnRUN Phase One

I believe that 1, 2, and 3 are great records, but the 'Prince sound' isn't fully developed yet, so I tend to enjoy the later albums more.

The only ones I don't listen to on a regular basis is

Rainbow Children - Great album but I have to be in the right mood.

Batman - Love some of the songs...The Future in particular...but not a huge fan of the album as a whole. Also the album that ended the string of truly excellent albums in the 80s.

Love Symbol - some really good songs, but way too bloated.

Rave Un2 - but totally dig Rave In2

BTW, whoever said Sign o the Times or Controversy needs to go back to school.

It is really funny - I think this is the album where there is greatest polarity if people like it or not. I am in the "cool album, different, urban-industrial electro-funk vibe, I like" party. The Future is cool, Lemon Crush is awesome (YES SIR), Batdance is a stone-cold killer, Scandalous and The Arms of Orion are on the right side of sleazy ;=) As is the joke on Vicky Waiting. So while not in my top 5, it certainnly isn't in my bottom ten.,,

I can't even answer this because Musicology is the last of his albums that I ever listened from front to back. And probably just once or twice, back in 2004. I've tried on several occasions to listen through his albums released after that and I just can't do it. I've really tried. So my bottom 10 would all come from a year starting with a 2 and a 0. And I guess I could consider Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic if I wanted to include something from the previous millennium.

Can't make it to ten bc I do dig a lot of his discography
Will do as many as I can think of off the top of my head
.

1. NPS - Plastic and the grooves lack substance.
2. Rave - Doesn't do the brilliance of the title track justice to follow it with such an inconsistent collection. Awful album cover.
3. MPLSound - Be careful what you wish for. 20ten is the better album and is much more authentic & funky.
4. Chocolate Invasion/Slaughterhouse - Plastic, hard to call proper albums as they really are just collections. Judas Smile is good
5. One Night Alone - I quite literally never listen to this album.
6. HitnRun Phase 1 - I love AoA, and Phase 2. Sonically these songs are not bad! Unfortunately the lyrics, repetitiveness and vocal delivery on some of these songs make this a frustrating listen. Songs such as Like A Mack & Shut This Down are down right embarrassing 😂
7. The Truth - Boring but a cool bonus to Crystal Ball. Concept much better than the actual product.
8. Plectrum Electrum - Sounds great, but songs like FixUrLifeUp, Boy Trouble, Aintturninround are ruined by the same corniness as HitnRun Phase 1 just w guitars instead of computers.

I liked Trust before I even knew that it was Prince who sang it. My dad was a big Batman fan so I was exposed to that movie from a very young age. So I'll always associate Partyman and Trust with the movie, my childhood and my dad which makes it impossible for me to dislike either song.

For what it's worth, I think that even his worst album has some good songs on it.

10. Love Symbol
A couple of very good songs on here but the awful, cringey rap music makes it impossible for me to sit through the entire album

9. Diamonds & Pearls
Same as above. These two albums could easily switch places.

8. Graffiti Bridge
Outside of We Cam Funk and The Question Of U, this album has nothing for me.

7. Around The World In A Day
I never liked Raspberry Beret. Then I got this album and realised that it's actually one of the better songs on it. Which explains why it's my 7th least favourite album.

6. Prince
Sexy Dancer is cool. The rest, it's just not for me.

5. Hit'n'Run Phase One
This would easily be my least favourite album if not for it containing one of my favourite songs (1000 Hugs & Kisses).

4. The Black Album
The epitome of "meh".

3. Lovesexy
One of the most overrated and over hyped albums I've ever heard. It came highly recommended. I was highly disappointed.

2. Chaos & Disorder
No. Just... no.

1. For You
Two decent songs. The rest are bloody awful.

Post 3121 I didn't like any of his albums except Lotus Flower. However, I didn't really listen to most of the albums due to lack of interest. Having said that, these are the albums I gave a chance and didn't like (in no particular order):

Planet Earth- hard to believe the man who created 1999 would produce this drivel

NPS- MadSex was ok but the rest...

Rave Un2- he was trying too hard and it showed. It had a couple decent songs

For You- first album so it's understandable

Chocolate Invasion- do we consider this an album proper? Either way, not good

Come-A couple of decent songs but forgettable

One Night Alone- A Case of U and Avalanche were good but I never go back to this album

Grafitti Bridge- We Can Funk, Joy in Repetition and The Question of U are great. Some of the others are listenable but overall it's clunky to say the least.

NEWS

MPLSound- If it were possible to completely tarnish one's legacy artistically this one would do it

13) Newpower Soul - I may have enjoyed three of the songs

12) Musicology - I did love two of the songs

11) For You - I did enjoy two of the songs

10) The Truth - I think I enjoyed two of the songs

9) MPLSound - I really only remember one or two songs

8) Planet Earth - I don't really recall any of the songs, but musically it was alright

7) Lotusflow3r - I don't really recall any of the songs, but musically it was alright

6) Welcome 2 America - I think I enjoyed the title track

5) 20Ten - I think I enjoyed the bonus track

4) Hit n Run Phase Two - I don't really remember any of the songs

3) N.E.W.S. - boooring

2) Originals - awfully full of Frankenstein mixes

1) The Rainbow Children - just awful. Prince's album from Hell

biggrin

- Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic (The remixes where mostly terrible)

- Planet Earth (maybe one or two good tracks)

- HitNRun Phase One (What was P thinking?!)

- Lovesexy (Too much rap by Cat which was annoying)

- MPLSound (Pretty weak overall)

- 20Ten (Only two songs I like)

- Parade (About half the album was good, Outtakes were better)

- Emancipation (Overall pretty weak, did have a few good songs)
