NEXT SDE Just to make all y'all freak out. The next two SDE's will be Purple Rain and next The Symbol Album.
You won't get anything revolutionary but it is what it is.. Enjoy it.
I do NOT have to provide links to prove this.

The outtakes selection for the shelved Symbol SDE was really remarkable IMHO, much much better overall than what we got for D&P (or even SOTT for that matter), so depending how much of it they keep, it could be brilliant . PR, I'm a little skeptical because there was already one 8 years ago and there are so many other eras to explore (+ I think everyone is really, really looking forward to a collection of Parade era outtakes), but the last one left a lot of room for improvement so if done well, it's always welcome of course (maybe we can get Erotic City without the glitch this time?). . Now there's also rumors that they don't wanna do the SDE format anymore because they lost money with the last few ones, so this is confusing. We'll see tomorrow I guess... Reportedly Lonnie and Charlie have been telling Celebration attendees that producing SDEs is too costly and they don't make money. . Imagine telling people that you're too incompetent to make money selling Prince music. . [Edited 6/7/25 7:41am]

Why release these 2 sde's if there is nothing interesting to propose "you won't got anything revolutionary but it is what it is"...I can't understand this remark and this is confusing because Spicer- said yesterday that they won't be any new sde's...not enough profitable? Well very confusing and disturbing

I understand "You won't get anything revolutionary" as: those SDE have been ready for years, they're from the previous instance of the Estate, so we basically know what the "Love Symbol" SDE will contain (plus or minus a few tracks maybe?). I expect the "Purple Rain" SDE (if it's released) to contain a lof of things that have been known for decades. Plus a few surprises (I hope). [Edited 6/7/25 8:59am]

wait a minute, are we sure that this is not the PR musical SDE

if no SDE means more simple deluxe editions or expanded remasters, that's fine with me.

I highly doubt PR SDE now.
Last I heard the ship has sailed and they’ll wait for the 50th Anniversary (seems nuts, but that’s what we’re dealing with). We all know Love Symbol is likely as it was nearly ready. I would hope for an SDE of the next big Anniversary album, next year. Parade. [Edited 6/7/25 10:42am]

If it's the same charity who use to post on Housequake then I think they are reliable. Knowing Pantal he saw this post and just copied it I'm pretty sure they are not the same person

. There are two questions I don't have the answers to, i.e. 1/ Why weren't the SDE profitable? (Is it usually the case with other artists? Was something too costly in Prince's case? Does Prince sell less than others for whom it is profitable?) and 2/ What else would be profitable (Why would it be cheaper to produce? Why would it sell more?). . I myself don't really care for the SDE format, I found it more often frustrating than satisfactory in terms of content so far. I would personally favor well curated, cohesive compilations of outtakes that would provide a nice listening experience in sequence (for example, the Bonnie Raitt, Martika and Tevin Campbell tracks could have been great EPs, the D&P outtakes and alternates would have worked better separated from the new jack swing songs given to other artists, etc.) for whatever they deem deserves a "proper" release, and a subscribtion service for everything else (same with live shows, soundchecks and rehearsals: there's the occasional gem and there's all your not so well recorded, not so exceptional in terms of content tapes lying around — we already know that from the soundboard bootlegs in circulation, not everything deserves a deluxe boxset). . Now comes the question of how much you charge for what. Bill Laswell charges about 20 bucks a month and for this we have at least one new album (usually live) a month, sometimes more (there was more at the beginning because there was more in his vault, I think). I think it's acceptable. George Clinton charges the same for ONE SONG a month, which I think is really excessive (but Danny Bedrosian says he believes the material's worth it). When it comes to Prince, given the ridiculous amount of tapes at hand, I think they could easily throw us a show and a rehearsal a month, plus a handful of outtakes (even if they're mostly alt. mixes) each month without exhausting the well anytime soon. Thank you for clarifying where this information came from Chastity. It would be great if they could announce this in a straightforward manner if this is the case.I look forward to any release that is new music.

. . Of course SDEs will never make the kind of profit socks and T-shirts can make, and probably that's what McMillan would expect. However, there are plenty of ways to make them far more profitable than they were so far: – change the form factor of the CD box set, make it smaller, make it a collectible, numbered series with identical graphic elements, and don't make the booklet hardback when you're putting it in a rigid, safe box anyway. (See the Joni Mitchell Archive series form factor as a great example, or the book style box sets of the critically acclaimed and successful Jethro Tull expanded editions.) Friends don't let friends clap on 1 and 3.

I'd also add: don't put all those outtakes on streaming. Keep them exclusive to physical media and digital sales. . Also, have an ongoing program. Don't release one SDE and then expect that to keep going for a year. Release one-off singles. Release one major (SDE) and one minor set per year (e.g. something like Originals). . There's still a ton of already released music that is unavailable, like protege artists. Release expanded versions of those albums, with remixes and edits and perhaps even outtakes. . We're 18 months or so since the release of the D&P SDE, what has been released since then? Yeah sure, there was the Netflix thing, but that got resolved four months ago and since then we've had one track. There should have been a whole album of unreleased music been prepared for that moment and released immediately digitally, and then later a physical release. That could have been a CD release for RSD in April. . What is even the point of spending money on restoring concert videos and then only showing them once at Paisley Park? How is that financially viable?

If those currently in charge can't make money selling Prince's music, fire them and hire one of the many people already in their orbit that can. Simple and obvious... Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.
