As a lover of 'N.E.W.S.' the only thing worse than fans de-facto putting it in their bottom 5 with the other instrumental records is instead taking it out of contention entirely and having it ride the bench because it's not worthy of being considered a Prince album "proper".

To be honest, I'm guilty of falling into that category of not considering it a "proper" album. If I did, I'd have it right down the bottom with the other instrumental albums. I'm just not into karaoke versions lol

I guess there are no Only Fools & Horses fans on the org because my "karaoke version" reference seems to have gone right over people's heads lol

Never watched an episode, but I guess I should.

I'm having a hard time reconciling the fact that what you said is funny (now knowing the reference) with the fact that you still wouldn't consider Prince's instrumental albums "proper albums"? wink

It's a brilliant, brilliant show. Hilarious and surprisingly dramatic and emotional at times.

But getting back to the idea of "Prinstrumentals", they do nothing for me. I can appreciate the skill level involved and I can hear that it's all very technically impressive. But I just don't like listening to it. Same thing with acapellas. It feels like I'm only getting half a song. I guess I've been conditioned to listening to more traditional, pop music stuff and that's just how it is.

1. Xpectation

Admittedly it's been awhile since I've heard this one, but I found it incredibly boring and if there were songs I liked they dragged on too long and got boring by the end. Boring is the worst thing music can be if you ask me.

2. The Slaughterhouse

The only case where I skipped songs on my initial listen of the album. Blech

3. Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic

4. Chaos and Disorder

5. 20Ten

6. Old Friends 4 Sale

7. HitnRun Phase One

8. N.E.W.S

9. The Truth

10. Planet Earth

Of all of these though I'd still say at the very least I enjoy most of them to some degree

Fair enough. Out of curiosity, do you listen to instrumental music outside of Prince?

Nope. The closest I ever get is when a song as a really long intro lol .

I suppose there are one or two exceptions though, to be fair. I have a few tracks from videogame soundtracks burned to a few CDs that I listen to in the car. And some of those are instrumentals. But generally speaking, I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to instrumentals. Especially jazzy kind of stuff. Miles Davis and all that. It's just not my cup of tea.

The loudest people are quite often wrong.

However, there was nohing "loud" nor "wrong" about what I wrote. prince prince
