Purple Rain shirt in new Lilo and Stitch movie

Lilo's sister Nani is wearing a Purple Rain shirt through the last third of the new Lilo and Stitch movie. Great to see on the big screen and great exposure especially because this movie is projected to make 1 billion!

How is the animated version of the album cover on the shirt?
Or is it just the type font?

Don't you guys ever notice all-present pop culture? Disney has been doing live action versions of its animated classics, and this is yet another example of that. And don't even pretend this is some fringe thing, the Lilo & Stitch movie is a massive hit.

Odd that a kids' movie references a pretty adult one, and that Disney was OK with this.

I dunno man, Disney now has R rated movies on Disney Plus so maybe they're trying to go for a different audience since they're losing billions.

LOL What world do y'all live in? Disney isn't all Lion King and Aladdin-adjacent. I mean honestly - do folks think some Disney executive is rushing onto the set screaming, "SHE CAN'T WEAR THAT. PURPLE RAIN HAS TITTES IN IT. WE CAN'T HAVE THAT!"

My God, one of their first movies was Old Yeller, and they shot the damn dog. hahaha

I'm talking about them referencing a fairly adult movie IN A KID'S MOVIE. All that "but Disney makes adult movies as well" is BS since they did that in separate companies. Same with the adult content on Disney+: that's behind parental controls.

...while the US porn industry is the biggest, and the most billion dollars earning industry in the world.

What Disney forgot (or wants to forget), is that their soft adaptions of old European fairytales actually once were sex-driven, heavy porn, bloody and horror related stories.

Disney should make plush-porn, with stuffed animals and flatable Mickey's and Mini's.

And make billions again. XD

Exactly. It sits on the shelf at Target alongside ac/dc, Ramones and Metallica shirts for $4 a slice.

By portraying whatever the character is garbed in a purple rain shirt, they're painting them as an everyperson, not a purveyor of exceptional musical taste.

Big whoop.

There is precedent - Mouth wore the same t-shirt in The Goonies in 1985.

It's like those Nirvana shirts, you see a bunch of kids wearing them and know nothing about the band.

I was guilty of it as well with my Ramones shirt lol.

I chuckle at the Nirvana shirts. As time passes, it's more and more obvious how overrated this band was... and I loved them back in the day. had he not offed himself, he'd have died of drugs or he'd be penniless by now. That band had maybe 2 more albums in them after In Utero, and they weren't going to be good. It's tough realizing you were a one hit wonder, and that's how gunshots happen.

That's what I'm saying. There was also a Prince t-shirt in The Breakfast Club (a movie with drug use if someone's clutching the pearls), Maid to Order, and more recently (I think) on Insecure, and countless others. To say the estate had to clear a fucking t-shirt, or gets a say-so in what shirt someone wears is a stupid idea.

No, Ally Sheedy was actually studying the inner album sleeve of '1999' lol

True. And I sorta wish the pic of him on the bed was showing. Just to raise some eyebrows.

I was probably thinking of the Purple Rain shirt in Maid to Order; a movie I need to rewatch soon. I liked that one. I just loved her back in the day. She reminded me (visually) of Wendy.

No, Mouth wore a real tour merch version of the shirt not some knock off and cheap off the shelve 'band' shirt

yes, but true. that Nevermind album got stale really quick, and the album before tht was nothing interesting just like In Utero wasn't all that great.

See that word: IN. That's the clue. Yeah, restaurants have knives, but that isn't an issue until a waiter sticks one IN your body.

The new Star Wars show has a scene depicting the attempted rape of one of the female characters in it. Star Wars!. The biggest and most popular kids franchise of all time. So I don't think someone wearing a Purple Rain shirt in Lilo and Stitch is really all that shocking. Especially seeing as most young people don't even know that Purple Rain is even a movie. At most, they might know the song. So I doubt the inclusion of this shirt was ever even considered to be an issue amongst Disney executives.

I don't know how any of these things work but could it be that Primary Wave (who seems to be reposible for advertising Prince in media or whatever) could have paid Disney to advertise Purple Rain in some form in there products?
