Live at Glam Slam RSD 3lp release So, I got this. I wasn't at all interested in the D&P SDE, but I did pirate it and proceeded to ignore it. Then, the other week, I put the live portion in my walkman and enjoyed a headphone listen around the house. I deemed it worthy of inclusion in my library of physical media. Amoeba Hollywood still had some at MSRP, and they had it delivered to me yesterday. Overall, this is a very nice set. The show itself is exciting, with unique and extended and tight performances of the songs on the tracklist. I've never been a fan of Rosie Gaines, but I was particularly impressed by her performance in this setting. The recording sounds great. I recommend that you listen in a setting that lets the music fill a room at a volume that allows you to feel it in the trunk of your body. The records themselves are good enough. I cleaned them, then played them and there were no audible or visual defects. The package is minimal, but satisfactory. It looks as though all the photos are still images taken from video. Actual photos would be nicer. No photo credits are listed. My only quibble with this set is the listing of, with the same prominence as those artists and technicians that had a creative hand in this package, L. Londell McMillan, Charles F. Spicer, Jr., Duane Tudahl as Archival Producer/A&R. This just feels like an unnecessary flex. An estate logo, as presented on previous releases (not present on this release), would have sufficed and been a little more tasteful. Anyhow, this will likely be the only recording of this era that I reach for for the foreseeable future. A great performance by a great band, well recorded and presented in a nice package. Oh, yeah. The etching on side 6. I mean, it is what it is, but as far as etchings on dead sides go, this is a nice enough example, depicting the cover image from the D&P album proper.

If you skipped the D&P SDE, I guess you didn't see the bluray video of the Glam Slam performance? It's such a great show, with an amazing band. Worth watching.

TrivialPursuit said: That bluray surprised me at just how good it was. There was something about his pride during that show. He was happy with what they had in store for folks. And him not fully dressed, but trying to get dressed in the 2nd section was pretty funny. The groove under "Thieves in the Temple" is insane. The disk is worth the cost of the whole thing. And it's dropped in price lately, so someone can get it way cheaper. 'Thieves in the temple' is a particularly surprising groove, a lot of texture added to what I feel to be a really boring song. Likewise the rather countrified 'cream'. Even the straightforward performance of 'willing and able'...the whole show is stellar. Even the songs I don't fancy are cool to hear played by such a tight, well rehearsed band. It's a great show, so I'm glad they released it on its own. No way I'm paying up for the blue ray though, unless and until there's a standalone release.
