How Did This Get Made: Under The Cherry Moon https://youtu.be/RAtCowVL...3q2R7nRpu6 Fun film podcast. This time around they're looking at UTCM. Above is the YouTube link, but you'll find the audio on your podcast provider of choice. They're actually very kind. "It's terrible, but it's a great movie".

Thank you for this link. Very nice and fun. - To sum it up like Jason says, UTCM is "...It's pure genius, but there's too much of it, like Prince's Carreer (not agree with that, as a fan. Spot on! Happy all of them liked the movie. One small thing, Jason screams when he talks. What's up with that. Anyways. Totally unimportnat, and I forgot it, that Mary has a 'Neon Telephone' in her bedroom. - Weird these 2 of them haven't seen Pruple Rain. Also weird that they argue about Mary's characcter age in the movie (30-33min). It's an important part of the story; that, Mary will inherit a lot of money when she turns 21, at her birthday party. I mean, didn't they pay well attention? Besides that, a fun episode. And feels nice to hear them talking so high of Prince.

I heard Gett Off for the 1st time on the radio in 2001, and really thought it was a New single ( and was blown away). I thought that was so different from what I knew of him, and got me interested. But I was shocked to find out itvwas released 10 years ago, along Cream which I thought was more of a 80's song. So it always hit me that it s one hell of a stride to have a big break in the pop/ rock n roll in 1984, and release that hard-rock funk UFO only 7 years after

Off topic, but going further on RODSERLING... Listen to "Irresistible Bitch", and tell me how contemporary it still sounds. Written in 1981, then known as the rerecorded version of 1983, it's this version i mean. It's 41 years old! - This episode of UTCM made me go back and watch it again. It's still a nice and fun movie, but not all that memorable like PR, to me. At the same time I've seen the alternative openings scene (available on YT). God how aweful this is. Happy he didn't used that! One of these guys in this podcast is right. To me, UTCM is also just someclutter of jokes poored in hastily recorded scenes, full of flaws and contradictions, but still 'fun'. Fin in the way like 'party, party party.' He sometimes did the same with songwriting, creating a clutter of jokes-songs. Maybe we could compile them to a fun album. Anyways. Prince is absolutely so unconvincing as a gigolo in his outfits, and in his so called bromance with Tricky?! How covertly unclear a relationship this is. Like, two men, in the same small French apartment, spending time together in the same bathroom? Prince, really? ;-D But still fun. - Bats? That cave with candles? these two drunks in the beginning when he gets out of his car. that aweful smiley on Mrs Wellington's bed that kiss inthe telephone boot
Christopher shot at the end?
I can go on. [Edited 3/28/25 12:09pm] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts." (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

This is a movie that is so cringy but it has some brilliant moments. Of course the redeeming factor for me is the music of course and the Mountains video at the end.
That comment about Prince being a so-called gigalo in those clothes is so spot on! The white outfit when they are at the racetrack? Wtf
I could never figure out why film a movie set in the beautiful French Rivera is in black and white.

Prince made 4 movies: -Purple Rain -Under The Cherry Moon -Sign Of The Times -Grafitti Bridge
Of those, to me, UTCM has aged, by far, the best. Purple Rain, for all the kudos it's received, is basically a collection of video clips, with bits in between of very much varying quality. In a way, I get the same feeling watching Purple Rain as I do watching Raw or Delirious. It's not so much cringe as it is feeling repulsed by the way women are portrayed. (much like the homophobia in Eddie's old material) . Prince has said "for the sake of humor we may have gone overboard and if that's the case, then I'm sorry", which is one of those non-apology apologies. A proper apology was warranted. . Sign of the Times suffers very much from those awful vignettes and the playbacking. . GB, well... they never let him make a movie after that, and I agree. . Which leaves UTCM. Which is camp and cheesy, but made like it is made as a loveletter to a whole range of movies that Prince clearly loved. There is slapstick humor that misses the mark about as much as it nails it. Some of the cinematography is simply beautiful and the score is marvelous. The editing is also a bit hit & miss, although there are quite a few parts where the rhythm of the lines, the music and the cuts is simply great. It's not a great movie, but it's an entertaining movie showing a side of Prince that is rarely on display. To me, it's his best movie and really the only one that should still be available. . And anyway, any movie that asks for someone to give "that Bella Lugosi look" is alright in my book. Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

To me,the only Prince movies that matter are Purple Rain and Sign O The Times. The other two movies are best forgotten
