HAPPY 3121!

Here's my story...

Happy 3121!
Here’s the story! In 2006, I received an email with the 3121 album attached and a short message of “play on your show at midnight on 3-21. I teased a purple package being delivered to my house and told listeners at midnight on March 21, 2006 we would play it’s contents! The evening of 3/20/2006 we started promoting it in Prince’s official chat room that we would be playing 3121 at midnight! Some of the chat moderators said “you’re not allowed to play the album on your show" to which we said “go talk to your boss, we have permission”! Twenty minutes later we got a message from said mods saying “have a great show”! A few weeks later I was the third person to interview Ashley Tamar (Rolling Stone and MTV being the others! Thank you Prince for this incredible time in the Purple Sandbox!

What are your memories of this era?

Kind of an up & down for me, but mostly positive as a long time fan biggrin
"Te Amo Corazon" didn't rattle the charts as the 1st single, but had a nice video.
The opening track was fantastic, but not really a precurser to the whole record...
...which then made me later realize that the album was, again, a great collection of diversity that only Prince can conjure.
It went straight to #1!
"Fury" on SNL!!!
The Brits with W&L & Shiela!!!
No extended version of "Black Sweat" confused
No B-sides sad
No explaination of "3121" other than the house number of Doug and Carrie.

I'm sure the Vegas shows were great, but never got the chance to go...

It's a decent album with a few good songs. I remember how disappointed I was with the album version of Fury when I first heard it cuz the SNL version is so much better. My favorite song on 3121 is The Dance.

It's probably my favorite album from the 00's, Lotusflow3r gives it a run for it's money.

A think 3121,Te Amo Corazon,Black Sweat,Love, Fury And The Word are all great songs.

3121 and Love are in my opinon top drawer Prince songs.

Its ok. The title song is fonky. Also The Word and Love. The rest is ok.

He got in a rut of releasing sleepy ballads as the first single...wrong move here. Black Sweat was good, but not great imo. I think the title track with some killer remixes/extended versions b/w Fury SNL version would've been a decent hit.

Did not really care for it that much at the time... somehow, 3121 did not touch me as a Prince album usually always had done ...

Black Sweat does nothing for me... felt like Prince trying to stay ahead of the game, but did not really suit him, I thought...

Harldy return to this album. There is the three song segue of The Word - Beautiful, Loved & Blessed - The Dance that I think are smashing, but the rest is somewhat - dare I say it - boring to my ears.

Black Sweat is the worst song on the album. I don't like the high pitched synth.

I love the diversity in opinion that Prince's albums bring, along with the diversity of the music. YOu mentino BLAB as part of a 'smashing' trio. But for me, that song is the worst on the album, really bores me and has me reaching for skip. It's a 4 minute song that somehow goes for nearly 6 😅.
