Pianote: Jesus Molina hears Prince for the first time

Recently stumbled upon this video on YouTube and thought I'd share it here.

They do a show where they get artists to listen to the drums and vocals of a song they've never heard before. Then ask them to provide the music. I thought it was pretty cool.

My father sent me that link a couple of days ago! lol

What he does just with the LinnDrum and the vocals is incredible.

I find it hard to believe that he never heard "1999" and is not at least a bit familiar with Prince, but he's from 1996 and grew up in Columbia, so I guess that's why (?).

He's an amazing player. But with my musician hat on I must say that he kinda... massively overplays something that is clearly meant to be a pop song ha ha. Still really enjoyed it.

When he was just playing along to the initial listen I had my eyebrows raised questioning could he really make this sound logical, but once he did his own arrangement I could really hear him make it fit. If his playing was really blended with the song (volumn) and slowed down a bit, I could see it as one of those vamps Prince would do when he rearranged a song. I could see Renato hitting pumping this out during a hits section... lol
