Piano and Mic is ready to go and could be released unless they do that 2026 marking 10 years of his passing (time flies!) but other SDE are ready it seems so shouldn’t be an issue. I’d rather not have one persons view of who Prince really was based on a few mistakes he made tbh. We should celebrate his greatness in the field of music and leave the rest to remain private and focus on what he chose to share with us

Did the same person who made the call on the low quality mp3 files from the celebration put together that video? A landscape video but rendered in portrait form first, and then a badly cropped portrait version immediately afterwords. They aren't interested in putting out professional products.

all I know is I nearly has a heart attack when I saw the thumbnail and title on youtube this morning.

after clicking it and watching it three times, before reading the comments, it slowly started to dawn
on me that this was not about music being released or the vault opening.

this was just a quick roll out of another backhanded comeback by the team, bating actual fans into
thinking there might be some like, music, to be heard. they couldn't even be bothered to upload the
complete acoustic rendition of Free that runs beneath the clip.

to clarify the "you are either here to enlighten or discourage" quote is such a childish kiss off to the
Netflix documentary.

and that's basically all there is to the video.

they couldn't even just make it a celebration of being able to now release what they want to when
they want to. they just had to include a snarky quote.

no further explanation, nothing. all good and well for us fools, who are, what 3000 world wide who
are still hangin onto every word from whatever source about all things prince.

but for the other 2.1 million subscribers to the official channel it must be a headscratcher as to the
actual meaning of this. people will just assume the vault is opening. they might look for product,
and find that there is only a room full of smoke and mirrors.

i'll wait tho. they might surprise us. we might get everything we want and much more, this year
and the next. but the way they rolled out this vid and it's intent to slight a dozen people over the
backs of millions of viewers, is a tell tale sign of who they are.

I think it is about music being released though - they have only been able to release vault material with Netflix's approval up to now. That now changes.

So we wait (optimistically) to see what this newfound freedom might bring.

Does this mean that the estate now has the right to release everything? Even the music associated with films that WB has laid claim to?

Does this mean that super fans can put up any music they might have acquired/ collected over time on the internet for everyone to freely enjoy and share without fear of any reprisal from the estate or the record companies? Or would that be too broad and subversive a definition of free.

We need a little clarity here.

I'm thinking that all the music from the Vault has already been released

All we have left are a bunch of knitting and crochet patterns for all of the album covers.... This will allow us to get socks and underwear from all of the albums and not just Purple rain.

That's why they are proclaiming that the vault is free.... Don't go expecting music, but at least we finally get what we deserve.

I'm heading down to the bank this afternoon to convince them to give me a loan, or to put a second mortgage on my house.... I think I'm going to need the cash

2025 - here we come

I cant imagine we will hear anything regarding new releases until the Celebration.

I'm assuming the RSD release was planned a while ago when the status of the netflix doc was still unknown.

I have my fingers crossed for at least an SDE, an exciting Black Friday RSD Release and perhaps a few of the out of print albums becoming available again

Couldn’t they just take the documentary as it is now, remove all the factual stuff about him being a groomer, and then release that? That would save them some time and money.

before they release any phycial product, which is probably going to take months at least,
they could make a show of goodwill and amend some of the omissions made by previous
people in charge of the estate.

I would love to see a digital download release of all the tracks that could have and in many
cases should have been included on the previous 3 SDE released of 1999/SOTT/D&P.

shit like Lust U Always, Small Bright Light, Yo Mister etc etc.

Hold on, you think the people who just tanked a whole documentary because of domestic abuse accusations are going to suddenly release songs where Prince sings about rape? You're out of your mind lol

Not releasing "Joy In Repetition" segued though with "The Ball" is a missed opportunity.

This is a bittersweet announcement for me.

.

On one hand, I'd love to see the documentary. It's a shame that the Estate can't handle the fact that Prince wasn't a perfect human being. His flaws and injuries drove him to create.

.

BUT... on the other hand, if this docu has been standing between me and an "Around The World In A Day" SDE, then I'm okay with it being shelved. I want the music.

Not just that, there is the Jill Jones story (domestic violence) and the alleged homophobia (towards Wendy and lisa).

Finally we're talking about this never heard (acoustic?) version of "Free" !

Damn, they could've released the whole song just for "Free,"

for all of us that are fooled and fooled again so far.

What is it with Prince and the always completely used and re-used, and again th' most misunderstood concept; "free".

Again raped by those in charge.

Free?

Free the fuck from what?

A contract?

Their own instable negotiated sifted shit with Netflix?

Edelman?

Didn't they know any better?

Really?

What, since 6 years?

Nothing or no one is ever free, not even when you're dead as a rock (it seems).

If the Vault is “free” it’s only that the Estate need to pay Netflix, and for the new documentary, so we’ll see more new releases this year to raise the cash.
Good for us, whatever the truth of it.

Honestly, I'm disappointed by the loss of the documentary, though glad things can now move forward with the vault.

I don't want a hagiography. We know Prince was a human being with a difficult past and he had some flaws. We don't need a documentary that glosses over uncomfortable truths and just blathers on about him being a genius. I want something nuanced and truthful.

Of course, I'll still have to watch this new diluted, estate-sanctioned worship film as it will have exclusive footage but I hope the original documentary comes out one and say and we can judge for ourselves.
