Like I said in another thread, they could release a sort of EP of the Celebration tracks, as a continuation of the Originals idea.

A short edition of incoherent choices (like they do for the Celebration each year), with an online page with some more detailed explanations.

Doesn't even have to be on CD or vinyl, just as (paid) downloads...

I guarantee we're never going to hear the majority of those Celebration tracks as long as Londell and Charles are in charge. They're keeping as much unreleased music as possible exclusive to Celebration so that people have to shell out big bucks just for the chance to hear something new each year. Pure greed, plain and simple.

The first "originals" sucked, so why would you want a sequel? It was all Frankenstein mixes.

That, + it also sucked because it lacked any kind of cohesiveness as a listening experience, with random songs thrown in together, + starting with SOTT SDE, "originals" were included on the SDEs, + given that the oldest tracks need to be mixed (unless the cassette mixes are used, but we know they only do that when the multitracks cannot be secured), it's not "minimal effort".

The Original concept could have been great for a series if it had been handled properly from the start, which it wasn't.

Looking into my files, I realized that we do have the 1986 version (longer than Taja's album cut), but the sound quality is awful.

It is indeed a lovely song.

Oof. I forgot that the version with Eric Leeds (1987?) was sounding so awful. This is recorded from the room next door, right?

i was totally happy with Originals 1. I don't care how they came up with the mixes. Prince singing "Makeup"? it could have just been his guide vocal layered over the album version instrumental and i would have gladly forked over whatever they asked.

i've been a fan since 1981, and i have owned a lot of bootlegs and downloaded a lot of leaked files. but i still didn't know or care about the "frankensteining" of the unreleased material. here's a hot take: i thought the 2016 Purple Rain vault songs sounded FINE. after years of the quality i was used to they6 were a revelation.

so yes, an Originals 2 of whatever they mastered and slapped together (because i'm sure they did more than what was on the first volume)? I'd love it. i'm a purist enough that I wish the version of "rebirth of the flesh" on the "sign" SDE was the one we have known for years .... but also, however they came up with the one we got is fine by me too. like, i care. but i don't care. just give me songs that don't sound like i'm listening through a papertowel tube stuffed full of socks.
