For 2025: your first Prince listen?

What's gonna be the first Prince song you're gonna listen to for 2025?

Turned out to be Purple Rain, after selecting Shuffle on My Prince spotify Playlist. Absolutely love the song, but rarely select it.

Hot Thing, it played on my local radio this morning when I got up.

biggrin

Nice to hear what kind of a super radio-unfriendly song it actually is/sounds.

It's too danceable for radio, hard to fit in anywhere. wink

In other words, my favourite loud car music.

By the way, happy new year to all of us!

Although no one seems to care really.

Nothing yet. I'd have to think about that.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I put The Hits/The B-Sides on shuffle just now, so my first Prince listen in 2025 is:

Still haven't listened to anything by Prince. Haven't felt the need to.

The alternate version of Live 4 Love, the Ultrafantasy edit of Somebody's Somebody and Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (the song). I don't know why. I'm not listening Prince in these days.

Having started New Year's Day with Palestrina, I wanted to stay with vocal music so I put on the song 'For You' by P – not quite a Stabat Mater of course, but in a way it is comparable to medieval motets. 'Solo' was next, then with a sharp turn it all went into a p-funk mayhem. biggrin

The first song turned out to be Sex Shooter. As the first song of the Originals album which I love listening to.

When I got in my car yesterday evening after work, I turned on the radio to BBC 6 Music and as I was defrosting the ice on the inside of my windscreen, When Doves Cry came on. Had listened to it in a long while and it gave me the shivers, or was that the freezing temperatures? Either way, it reminded me that even some of his mega hits can be overlooked for their excellence sometimes.
There may or may not be something coming!

Sometime this week I heard 'Partyman' (headphones, while i went for a run).

I stopped and listened with my eyes closed while taking a breath.

Damn... what a fantastic and great dance song this is!

Often overlooked imho. (Like the whole Batman album)

Also, yesterday, unexpected, watched the documentary about Candy Dulfer's life and carreer ("Candy").

A surprise to bump in that song again.. so I dug up the video version.

Exactly the same, what a fantastic song this is both single and video version!

Can't wait for a SDE of the Batman album.

It would be really nice with a Batman SDE. I think Batman is a very underrated album.
