Thanks to Mani, Larry and 'the truth', Prince got his soul back... I completely understand the backlash that has occurred because of Prince's relationship with all three of these influences but had it not been for their 'goodwill,' how happy would Prince have been now (given what must have been a period of severe loss in his life)? And as a result, how much longer would you have been here given the likes of Newpower Soul, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic and 1999: The New Master?
We are now in a blisteringly soulful musical era for Prince and that is, in many ways, thanks to these very influences. Yes, the vibe does feel different and although some of the fans are struggling to reconcile this, or respect why, I'm personally very glad that I'm still in for the ride. I found The Rainbow Children album, and ONA Live concert, as soulful and funky as anything I've experienced before, and it does feel good to know that Prince has reached this level with a strong sense of ease about himself. It's reflecting in the music and I can only hope it lasts for a little while longer. . [This message was edited Thu May 1 13:48:31 PDT 2003 by Anji]

Sorry people, but there are many on this earth who have to deal with tragedies far exceeding prince's one, and they get back on track without losing their marbles and sense for reality.

I thought that PRINCE recorded a MASTERFULL album with "EMANCIPATION" filled with everything a PRINCE fam could dream of.
But, with the release of "NEW POWER SOUL", "RAVE IN2 The JOY FANTASTIC" and "1999 The NEW MASTER", I realized that PRINCE was really an everflowing fountain of magnificant music. I know that some on the org do not like these albums, but I can't help but 2 enjoy the mass diversity that comes from him with each release. Listen 2 "The Holly River" and "Jam of the Year" from "EMANCIPATION" and go 2 "Come On" and "When U Lovesomebody" from "NEW POWER SOUL" and just enjoy the sound that flows from your stereo...! "The Greatest Romance Ever Sold", "So Far So PLeased", "Hot Wit U", and "Baby Knows" just 2 name a few from "RAVE" make my stereo JAM! And now "THE RAINBOW CHILDREN" just adds delight to my PRINCE experience. Hell, I love 2 put all his albums from the 90's up 2 present, hit random and just can't help but be blown away by the body of work that HE created! But, that's just me... __________________________________________________

prince remains a musical genius; his craftmanship still flows in tons even from lesser songs. But it's like he's gotten so used for being hailed all the time that his songs got sooo cheesy and sof. Not to mention preachy.
Instead of listening to a kick-ass artist with an attitude to match; I seem to be listening to my grandpa on cd; Ok with (at times) funcky music to put into shape - i'll give you that. The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy.

If he's doing what is best for him, fine. If he's found his spiritual calling, great, let him go with God. I'm glad for him.
HOWEVER, his music on TRC was soulful but hopelessly muddled from a thematic/style standpoint. IMHO, his music is not as engaging as it once was, but is still as intruiging as ever. Let's not go overboard on how good his recent stuff has been. TRC is probably the least played Prince album I have. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I joke and kid about the JW references in the music myself and I truly don't want to sound like a "fam", but, really, what is so different? For damn near 20 years, Prince has delved into sex and spirituality. Why do certain people feel that he's cramming JW beliefs down their throats. Is it because it is a form of organized religion? If anyone took his music that personally then this world has a few saints think that they have to fuck their way into heaven. In the past several years I think he lost his marbles musically. But his most recent projects remind me that he still has "it" but "it" doesn't shine as bright as it used to. But it looks like Stella is getting the groove back. The difference is; that in europe; the JW are classified as a sect; numerous complaints are filed; investigations made and a request to be called religion, denied.
The way the organization works is so fishy, oppressive and ignorant, that a "commercial call", what prince's music is becoming more and more, makes me very uneasy. His previous statements on spirituallity did not focus on any particular religion, cult, whatever... and I hope that any person with two working braincells would at least know that indeed, you do not need to become a sex-saint. And if you've mastered the art of reading and found your way to the library you should stay away from joining the JW. but hey, that's just me. The HQ-er formerly known as krokostimpy.

In my opinion, Prince doesn't sound happy. Listening to TRC, I hear a very bitter, finger-wagging person. The references to race, the dead blood kick, etc., make me feel like he's dealing with some personal demons. As far ONA and TRC being funky and soulful, I just didn't get that from those recordings. I listen to some of the songs and I can't get with what he's saying. People can say listen to the music and not the lyrics but lyrics are the most important part of the song to me.We are now in a blisteringly soulful musical era for Prince and that is, in many ways, thanks to these very influences.
