How long did Prince practised meditation you think?

These rooms were in Pasiley Park. Just sitting with nothing else.

No music making meditation.

When did he start with that?

I personally think after his depression in 1981 and before some Godly experiences which resulted in some music in the 80s.

I'd love to hear some insights from you!

I think it started around the Lovesexy era and ended during the time he married Mayte.

Not to be argumentative but with Mayte he did that. We also have pictures of him meditating during those years.

I didn't know he had a depression in 1981. Would you expand on that please?

Prince had a very evolved soul.

I meant that he stopped around the time they lost their child. Mayte said that he wouldn't hypnotize her anymore and no longer believed in new age stuff so I figured he also stopped meditating.

Absolutley exactly.

I never met him or talked to him.

He never invited me, I never dined with him or shared a glass.

Did you?

Where is your sense of humour.

But, correction on my behalf, he apparently had a meditation room in PP, I just read that.

I didn't know. Let's hope he used it.

From his posts I’ve seen he knows a lot.
His opinion that he, prince, never reflected on his life made all sense to me. He just kept on going and going and searching until one day it caught up with him.

Here it is:

When you talk abut God, which God are you talking about? The Christian God? Jewish? Buddhist? Is there any God in particular you have in mind?
Yes, very much so. A while back, I had an experience that changed me and made me feel differently about how and what and how I acted toward people. I’m going to make a film about it—not the next one, but the one after that. I’ve wanted to make it for three years now. Don’t get me wrong—I’m still as wild as I was. I’m just funneling it in a different direction. And now I analyze things so much that sometimes I can’t shut off my brain and it hurts. That’s what the movie will be about.
What was the experience that changed you?
I don’t really want to get into it specifically. During the Dirty Mind period, I would go into fits of depression and get physically ill. I would have to call people to help get me out of it. I don’t do that anymore.
What were you depressed about?
A lot had to do with the band’s situation, the fact that I couldn’t make people in the band understand how great we could all be together if we all played our part. A lot had to do with being in love with someone and not getting any love back. And there was the fact that I didn’t talk much with my father and sister. Anyway, a lot of things happened in this two-day period, but I don’t want to get into it right now.
How’d you get over it?
That’s what the movie’s going to be about. Paisley Park is the only way I can say I got over it now. Paisley Park is the place one should find in oneself, where one can go when one is alone.
You say you’ve now found the place where you can go to be alone. Is it your house? Within the family you’ve built around yourself? With God?
It’s a combination of things. I think when one discovers himself, he discovers God. Or maybe it’s the other way around. I’m not sure...It’s hard to put into words. It’s a feeling—someone knows when they get it. That’s all I can really say.

The word meditation means different things to different faiths. People with no spiritual faith also meditate. There is no evidence of any kind for a soul, much less one that “evolves”.

Couldn't agree more.

Prince tried just about everything. He was very insistent on a god, and managed to sell it commercially very well by linking it to his limitless lust. (Although his real lust so to say, was not all that real it seemed. He prefered to bath women and comb their hair...).

That he meditated may well be.

He also once said that upon having sex and 'come', he came closer to god.

To me, Prince always came across as not very much ‘evolving’.

His lyrics show relatively little self-awareness and change throughout his career. And this for a man who said that everything you should know about him was in his music. There was quite some self-pity in it, as well as blaming for those who did not grant him what he wanted.

Prince even had some strange deviant views of the world. Sometimes he was completely right, like in SOTT for instance. His best-known motto was to escape into partying and sex. Nothing wrong with that, by the way. Again, all this shows he was just a complex human being.
