They should find a way to release that Musical Portrait Doc by Albert Magnoli Don't know the history about that or anything other than the clip on YouTube. But I like how it makes emotional while focusing 100% on his musical ability. Shows him playing all different instruments, styles, settings. Shows him playing guitar and keys at the same time. You want to bring in new fans I think that's the way to go, because I think pretty much everybody would be impressed and intrigued if they could see up close how talented and prolific he was. I always think back about how got introduced to Prince and how turned off I was by both the image and even idea of him. I tried to listen to 1999 and turned it off during let's pretend we're married. Only pure chance that I gave it another shot and the rest is history. But yeah, I think something like this would be really cool. People need to see Prince solo on the bass in the studio. That is objectively cool.

Yup. An this is the exact same tone/vibe/feel the netflix documentary should have gone for. Prince needs to, in a sense, be re-introduced to the world in this way. [Edited 11/30/24 16:28pm] "New Power slide...."

We're living in total different times now. I hardly believe you can seduce newbies with a 40 year old view on any artist. Maybe I'm wrong thinking this. But, it would indeed be great to see that full (dusty) nostalgic doc for sure. Absolutely! Funny, it never got fully leaked, as I come to think of it. - Did Albert Fargnoli ever leaked anything?

Not that I know of. I'm hoping for the day he will find a VHS copy of the Purple Rain rough cut in his garage or storage area.

I'm not so sure. The recent wave of music documentaries about Elvis, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson seems to be repackaging familiar narratives - yet they continue finding success because each generation discovers these stories anew. The tried-and-true format works precisely because it serves as an entry point for newcomers. - This reminds me of Purple Rain's enduring legacy - it remains the quintessential Prince introduction for a reason. Despite some elements that root it firmly in its era, the film and album's raw energy and artistic vision are as potent today as they were in 1984. It serves as both a perfect "Prince 101" course and a gateway that naturally leads fans deeper into his vast catalog. The fact that it still resonates so powerfully speaks to its fundamental strength as a piece of art. "New Power slide...."

I can hardly argue. Even better, I kind of agree. It's best to have some hope as well (in these dark worldly times, where I tend to lose it). Thanks for your positive view on it.

Strongly doubt the Netflix doc WONT have scenes exactly like this. Its nine hours goddamit! Im sure it shows what made him so talented as well as not always a great guy
. The Beatles have so many docs on them cos they are in a totally diff league. And because of that, filmmakers can focus on very specific eras or events in their career. Prince isnt there yet. Hes also just not as big a seller or as beloved (i mean, who is?) [Edited 12/2/24 2:31am]
