I for one am reeeeaallllyy happy the Politics and Religion forum is gone! I prefer NOT to know what some Prince fans think and believe. Let's stick to the music, and leave all fuckedup trumpistery, the blood-on-their-hands-bibles-religions, and smelly conspiracy theories far away from here. I mean it. What’s really fucked are the people here who are constantly on about “we” this and “us” that. . The sheer sense of ENTITLEMENT of some folks is truly stomach-churning. . “WE haven’t had anything new in a year.” . “He wanted US to hear it all!” . And on and on and on. . Cults suck no matter what they are centered on. And the Prince cult, at its worst, is sickening. . Goddamn, NONE OF YOU know what Prince wanted or didn’t want done with his vault stuff. He could’ve released a shit ton more than he already did if he “wanted ‘us’ to hear it.” But we’ll never ever know and any claims to the contrary are founded on wishful thinking. He probably knew damn well that much of the vault material sucked - a considerable amount of tracks vomited up on the “1999,” “Purple Rain,” “Sign,” and “Diamonds” sets didn’t deserve to see the light of day. . Anyone who thinks a documentary featuring a story of abuse committed against a woman wouldn’t do more harm than good is fucking delusional. . But what kills me is WHY anyone really CARES what if the kiddos these days are listening to Prince. YOU can listen. I can listen. And who really cares if the new kids are discovering him or not? I mean, what difference could it possibly make to anyone’s life? . Prince died extremely prematurely with zero plan for his legacy. WHY the hell is an anyone blaming Londell or anyone else. WAKE UP. It’s been more than EIGHT YEARS. Prince took absolutely not one single solitary minute infinitesimal step to lay the groundwork for his legacy in the event of his passing. Did he not care? No one knows. No one will. He left a mess for other people to deal with. It’s not their fault. THEY DON’T OWE ANYONE ANYTHING. Neither did Prince. . How much unfinished material does anyone need before they will feel satiated? Some fools have said “oh I want it ALL, every note.” Jesus, the ENTITLEMENT knows no bounds. “He died! Now I’m OWED every note he ever committed to tape! I’m such a ‘fan’ I MUST have everything!” . Meanwhile, the few box sets that have emerged have landed with DULL THUDS for 99.99% of humanity. No need to carp about what they “should’ve done” or what they “should do.” NEWSFLASH: it doesn’t matter. It’s over, Johnny. . The next generation by and large doesn’t give a RAT’S ASS about hours and hours of unfinished (and largely uninspired) vault music. It’d be nice, sure, if the music was ACTUALLY KNOW that he wanted “us” (meaning everyone) to hear will continue to be heard. But releasing $200 sets LARDED with extra tracks ranging from so-so to outright junk isn’t going to earn a whole lot of new recruits to the Purple Cult. . Not that a word of this rant would even give a split-second’s pause to the whining “fams” who want every scrap, until Prince’s impact and legacy is so diluted with a proliferation of non-essential music that would inevitably outweigh the quality work he “wanted us to hear” (and make NO mistake, the ONLY music we know he WANTED “US” to hear is the music he chose to release during his time on this planet - ranging from “When Doves Cry” to “1999: The New Master” - but “we” take the good with the not-so-good and thankfully there’s a frigging LOT of music “we” know for certain he wanted to be heard). . Since literally the couple weeks after he died, it’s been the SAME thing on this forum for EIGHT years and counting. “Cool, they released such-and-such, WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE? WE ARE OWED IT!” I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

It's perfectly fine to say, "WE haven't had anything new in a year" - when the stuff is released, it's for people like us to buy. Agreed that for some people it's never enough. . It's difficult to know the impact the documentary will have. The legacies of many other artists have survived much, much worse. . In terms of unreleased music, we do know that he had no strong feelings about what happened to it after his death, as he had every opportunity to put plans in place for that. We also know what he said publicly about other people releasing music after his death, and what he told people close to him. . Some incredible music has been released from the vault, and some not so great. I guess the discussion is whether to see the entire workings and output of an artists for posterity or only just the perceived best (and then it is the opinion of the gatekeepers). I believe someone quit the Purple Rain deluxe edition in 2017 because they didn't agree Velvet Kitty Cat (?) should be released.

Indeed, it is acceptable to say that we have had nothing (hardly any news) in the past year. - Indeed, Prince clearly stated that his unreleased music would be released by others after his death. - Look at the poorly managed PR 1st remaster, which he supposedly oversaw. Oversight my ass tbh. - They will milk PR into another SDE if they do, I am not sure if they do, but if so, it will never be complete. Some fans will complain, again. The purists, completists, the perfectionists. The omnivore 'we-know-it-all better' fans, the so-called die hards to the bone. Only, Prince himself was never a perfectionist, far from a completist, not a purist as such, and far from consistent. Interviews with engineers made that more than clear since his passing.

What some of you don't know is there was a mass banning of orgers over the P&R forum. Unfairly and they were never let back. The mod that did this was kicked off the Org. Many of us reached out to try to get the posters who were banned back to no avail.

It's not what it used to be, but back in the day there was Prince news every week, sometimes multiple times per week. New songs, the latest shows, album rumours, a picture of Prince with a new hat.
Now it's copy paste wellington boots, 5% discounts at the official Prince.com store and people dying (sad but true) The estate could be dropping songs, live videos/recordings on a monthly basis and still barely scratch the surface of what's available. But building up or reuniting fan communities apparently isn't of interest. I haven't kept up on the latest developments with the documentary but I'd assume their hands are still tied as to what can be released from the vault, until they resolve things with Netflix? Or they actually believe they can elevate his catalogue into a million seller (they can't and no amount of masturbatory celebrations or musicals is going to change that). [Edited 12/12/24 6:41am]

Prince has so many live concert recordings that would make the best “Best of” compilation album ever. That would be a gift to all the fans who never had the privilege of seeing Prince live. No More Haters on the Internet.

There is only "Manic Monday" "Purple Rain" "Nothing Compares 2 U" & "Kiss". The rest has unfortunately been forgotten by the world outside of this -fandom- "Whatever skin we're in
