Xenophobia (live in studio version)

This has leaked but I can't see that it has been discussed here. I believe this is the version that would have been the title track before it was left off the album that became Xpectation. Any opinions or info on this?

Interesting 🧐 As far as I know the track was released as overnight, every night on Times Sqared by Eric Leeds. I always assumed that was the reason it wasn't on the xenophobia/xpectation album

^correction. According to the Vault "The leadline of Xenophobia is very similar to that of Overnight, Every Night, but should not be considered a direct reference."

found it easily on a well known video site.

As good as it is, I feel it's a rehearsal rather than a studio version ??

Very similar sound to the Live! version

The audio is is from a video that Scott Ferril made for Prince. He later (Aug 2017) posted the video on Vimeo.

.

He wrote about the origins of the video in a comment:

.

Hey! Yeah 2004 was when he let me put this together as 3 screens on 1 HD screen. The initial videos were from 2001 I think.

.

I was doing some commercials for the rainbow children for Best Buy (the were trying to sell HD tv sets). He called me around 2am and gave me 26 hours to make these videos. He told me the kind of images he was looking for and that I should bring anything I could, anything I had lying around.

.

Theres some super 8 of vacation to maine, my friend as a baby, some jazz art that was made for something else that I had the rights to. He had the stealth footage. I added effects that seemed right for portions of the song.

.

I finished just in time, or there would be more difference in the 3 screens. But I loved the pressure of throwing stuff on the wall. He made very few changes, and trusted to take out on tour right after it was done.

.

One of my favorite times working with him because as I was editing, the band was rehearsing down the hall. That was fantastic to see. Soooo tight. I was lucky as hell. He knew how to make people better, which is all you can ask for. RIP

.

After hearing this version for the first time, i think it's way better than the released live version.
Sure, the live banter about "leader/follower" is a fun experience, but here on this earlier take,
Prince kills it on guitar starting at the 8 minute mark till the end!
Just, WOW!!!
