What is the end-game for the estate? I dont get what the estate are getting out of this current holding pattern? - Prince's hardcore fans are just getting older and older - The next generation / Young people just aren't interested (to my 13 year old buy/girl twins... Prince is just a strange pervert - They've got Gorillaz and K-pop) I would be surprised if the music rights ae going up in value. What have the estate got to benefit from sitting on this, and faffing around with musicals and boat tours? Any ideas? I'm asking, for the hope that somebody will have the answers to this crazy quandry - As the alternative is madness [Edited 10/17/24 6:44am]

PR DE 1999 SDE SOTT SDE D&P SDE
Just one more infinity stone, then they will snap their finger and get rid of 50% of the fanbase. "Whatever skin we're in

To milk as much money from nostalgic casual fans as possible while putting forth the least effort possible.

I think the people in charge of the Estate don't even have the intellect to think about an end game. They have nothing to do with the music industry or anything, they just were blood relations to a musical genius and want to try and fleece the fans for as much cash as possible in the short term
Reply w/quote - E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
.. but that's the trick - If they want to flleece the fans then godammn release some products - But maybe that also makes sense - You might want to fleece the fans, but if you don't have anything to do with the music industry then A - You wouldn't have a clue as to what a sensible release strategy would be to make money - You just wouldn't have the business instinct or creative vision (both of which are helpful B - Even if you *did* have any of the above, you don't have the accumen or connections to initiate the logistics to make it happen Man, this thing is depressing - But. I find myself posting a lot as a sort of therapy - I think I'm working my mental exit strategy from my Prince obsession.. onto other matters. I don't know whether others are doing the same (i.e. this being group therapy) or whether it's just me.... but I have firmlucome to the conclusion that this is group therapy for me My next problem is... what the hell do I do with all my Symbol stickers and t-shirts? (I have them on my laptops, my bags, my phones, my keys, my wallet - Everywhere - Maybe I'll just hold on to them - Prince has been such a big part of my life since the 80s, and very much after his death also - But it *feels* like it's all finally over - This feels like a second mourning Or maybe I just need to get a grip - move on, and then get excited again if there's ever a need

Gorillaz are still big? Is it the cartoon gimmick? Because literally those guys came out 23 years ago.

Londell/Spicer seem like casuals themselves.
Maybe it's like they really can't fathom why fans wouldn't want to live in a world of endless puffy Mozart shirts and 1984 kitsch.

Yeah, that's the funny thing - Gorillaz were my jam back in the day, and they have translated well to this generation - They're still producing music and I think it's the eclectic nature of their music that plays so well. That being said, my son won't go anywhere near Prince, and I think it's probably due to how Prince comes across - I can't put my finger on it - It's like that crazy whiny pervy old man (and that Lovesexy picture on Prince.org just doesn't help ) But he *is* 13, so maybe things will change when he's older... who knows? Anyway, my whole purpose for mentioning Gorillaz was that they ARE an old band and the kids love 'em... but not Prince... The people that really love Prince, are getting older, and older and older.... [Edited 10/17/24 6:45am]

Thanks again, I love your honesty . I *am* a drama queen - It was my then-fiance, now wife, who pointed it out to me... oh 30 years ago... what a lightbulb moment. . I'm also blessed in that I'm lucky enough to be able to put my real-life obsessive energy into my family - Through love, energy and commitment . - Used to be work, but post-50 me knows better . This online posting is kinda the hobby part of my brain - I guess it comes across as exaggerated... I suppose because it is... I'm only pointing this out because you seem like a nice enough person so I wanted to reciprocate with truth..... I guess to let you know that I'm probably more fruitcakey here than real life because it's anonymous . I do enjoy unspoolng the Prince-obsession side of myself on here however - Hell last thing I want to do in real life is have a rant about the estate with my family - Lol I can't image how that would go down!!!

Yes, agreed with you again - I have terabytes of stuff - More than I can handle.. and so much of it AFTER Prince died - But you're right, it was worth getting excited when Prince was the one calling the shots - Now it's just money people haplessly bumping into each other!!!

I feel that we are in the end game right now. > The Estate receives a lot of dollars with licensing everything related to PR and the hit singles. This is their moneymaker therefore it seems that they are not invested in releasing or focusing on anything else. > They are also keeping the Vault hostage for Celebrations like an incentive to buy overpriced (VIP) tickets.

beyond that, to sell what's already been sold...
end up running an annual Celebration to their friends & family 10 years from now..
