It's annoying that D&P was the last Super Deluxe. If they had released Parade, that would collect up a lot of the vault material, extended versions & shows I was waiting for. ATWIAD would of been great too, but there's less unreleased material I believe in this period, and no official tour.
The 1978-1981 era, and Lovesexy / Black Album period would of been nice to have too.
They messed up with that decision. Wasn't the D&P super deluxe a poor seller?

D&P was a poor seller, but the former estate did that éditorial choice of highlighting something else than the 80's and the more recent material, which was a wish expressed by many fans. Moreover, from 1991 onwards, the material recorded was digitised, so it makes things easier for restoration, etc. Parade, I Guess you would have to go through thousand of dusty tapes to build an SDE. You Can bet the actual estate don't give a fuck about going through thé process of doing a New SDE. They already have the Symbol one in the can.

I'm sick of Prince fans acting like this was the Estate "giving the fans what they want" by finally venturing into 90s Prince.

- I remember Duane talking about it. Obviously in my pinion, it must've overlapped with work on the SOTT SDE. (Plus, possibly, all those found recordings done for ongoing protégées albums. My guess is that they at least are all sorted out.) Early and eighties stuff was worked on the most, as it was necessary and urgent, due to bad preservation by Prince himself, we all know that. - I'm waiting for the day that Duane T. is going to do an interview... to find out what really happened. He is so quiet on the internet, it hurts my ears. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Easy to figure out some non disclosure agreement will prevent him from spilling the beans. Even without a NDA it could be so unprofessional to speak out.

He is so quiet on the internet, it hurts my ears. In the contrary, I believe Tudahl and/or Michael Howe said Parade wasn't in the works. It was talked about, sure, but there was no tracklist, no editorial work done on it, no artwork, etc. They worked on many projects that didn't come to fruition ( Camille that was rejected from SOTT SDE, Crystal Ball, Black album, all coming from these 1987 SOTT Era sessions), but Parade wasn't obviously one of them. They did instead D&P and Symbol, and Purple Rain was to be the obvious next SDE, before the former estate got fired. Even that is doubtful, since D&P was originally scheduled for 2021, si it was a little but early for Purple Rain, which previous reissue dated back to 2017. Nevertheless , it seems there is a problem with WB, holding back the works on everything that was tied with soundtracks of their movies.

Sure, and Michael Howe isn't working for them anymore, so at least he, could talk. But that would bé so unprofessionnal, that it will never happen. Sadly, we will never know what happened in the wings for sure, at best we will have the Make Millions insinuations, and that will be all. I m sure Michael Howe could write a book with interesting and funny stories working as a Prince archivist, working closely with the estate, thé record company, etc. But hey, NDA for Life.

Try to get in here and make your own SDE. In these limestone mega-caves, Iron Mountain in Pittsburg is where all Prince's tapes and stuff is saved. Shame there is no Prince tape to be seen in this massive storrage, and super cool 1h40min video. But interesting to see and know where all is at this very moment (I hope). I always tried to imagine where Prince's stuff was, and now I know it. - They can lock me in here for one year without sunlight. Just give me some headphones, explain to me how the machines work, and a daily pizza for one year, and then I can peacefully die. If that's the case, then they must've renovated the vaults, which were to my knowledge too small even for everything? All stuff was spread out over several spaces in PP : They found the vault in an absolute terrible state after his passing. And a renovation of sorts is very expensive; climate control & humidity balance systems etc. You think they did all that? And moved it back from Iron Mountain?

I also hope not, but i think Sharon said when they took over that they wanted to move everything back to Paisley Park because it belonged there according to her (mostl likely because of it being much cheaper to house it at Paisley Park than at Iron Mountain)

Yeah get all of it back to Paisley Park where it can decay and disintegrate into kibble along with Prince's legacy. Job done.
Reply w/quote - E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yes, I remember Sharon saying that. I also remember many people saying it wouldn't make any sense (and I fully agree - tapes, etc. need to be archived in a professional manner and I don't see how it's possible at Paisley Park). Plus we never got any confirmation that the tapes were moved back.
There are many places where it would be cheaper to keep Prince's vault. My basement, for example. Iron Mountain is not cheap for a reason. [Edited 11/14/24 5:45am]

With the big tensions between the 2 representatives of the Estate and their different views & strategies of releases ...the things in the future will be harder & much more even since the death of TYKA NELSON....i thought that the main problem was Londell&Spicer but i think i was wrong ...PW might be the black cat in the garden ! This one is a no brainer and I'm surprised that they haven't done it yet, considering that they seem to be focused only on the 'big selling' albums.

Every soundtrack belongs to WB, so too many companies involved Poor catalogue seller (88k copies sold between 1991 and 2006 in the US, while 4 Batman movies were released during that time), considered by the fans and critics alike even worst than D&P.

D&P a mediocre project? Nonsense. You dont worth my Time. D&P is still a masterpiece, and one of its best album. Tony M was better than most of the rappers at the time. Dude - I think TM is unfairly maligned by the broader community often - he doesn’t deserve it and he did precisely what Prince wanted at the time. But better than most of the rappers at the time? Nowhere close. And I enjoy D&P (and particularly the Blu-ray of the show and the separate Atmos release were fascinating) but it was an extremely amateurish and lazy choice of the next choice. Let’s look at sales figures back then and project that reflects what people will be interested in now… There's a Bumhole in my Heart.

Nobody Can rap funky style like on Willing and Able. That was never done before, never After Hé couldn' t do This live though- Eminem concerts are terrible too, worst concert I ever went.
