The dates on those were 2023 so AFTER the diamonds and love project...
Release iiiiittt

I think so too. The whole D&L SDE was approved and ready but they just split it in two parts. Thats why I'm bit surprised that there's still no announcement for release around Christmas.

Again, D&P SDE sold half the SOTT SDE, so estate knew the Symbol SDE would sold half the D&P SDE.
So why would they release something they know even the fans won't buy anyway?
Of course that s just a rethoric question.

The Estate could also just release the Symbol SDE on their own website, maybe limited run.

It doesn't always have to be a global release.

I think it would sell the same as D&P possibly more as it was more well received by the hard-core fan base and less commercial
The fact is they have already done the compiling and artwork etc and they are pressed in an unknown quantity it just seems like and obvious thing to release... even in a limited quantity

I think the most likely next SDE is still the PR 40 SDE. I imagine a lot of it was compiled and agreed, just suddenly put on hold for some reason (partly Netflix).

If the Estate want to keep the 40th anniversary going to the next Celebration, then I think this will still happen.

.

After that, then probably Parade or Symbol.

.

It'll be months before we hear any news whatever they choose.

So there would be even less profitable. Only a few would be aware of that. And shopping cost would be too prohibitive.

You know, if that s vidéo deal with Netflix is true ( and I doubt it IS, Hence D&P Last year), they could focus on the first albums, where there s no vidéo archives at all.

Yes, I suppose the whole "Prince Estate Versus Netflix: The Fans Lost" situation might drag out - maybe even for years. neutral

As for the Parade SDE, it supposedly didn't come out because the Estate wants the rights back from Warners before releasing it and, of course, Warners don't want to relinquish the rights. confused

Warners also holds the rights for Batman and Graffiti Bridge, so don't expect any SDEs of those either, unless a deal is worked out as I suppose must have been the case with the Purple Rain SDE because it was scheduled for release before the Netflix situation arose. confused

Important to remember that Warner Music and Warner Bros Discovery (who own the films) are 2 completely separate companies.
Not sure about any dispute on ownership of the films, but The Estate hold all the rights to the Soundtrack, Vault tracks and concerts, etc for the SDE release.
Maybe they want a 4K release of Under The Cherry Moon to go with it, but I doubt it (they weren’t even interested in the 4K release of PR!)

This is how I have understood the situation as well. And I assume it also includes Girl 6, though that one being mostly a compilation would never get an SDE of course.

IIRC WB kept the rights to the soundtracks when Prince worked out the deal to get his masters back a couple years before he died.

Maybe Warner Bros Discovery owns some rights to the soundtracks, as it’s their films. So makes some of the profit from any future releases, and complicates things.
But I also heard the movie soundtracks ARE being talked about for SDEs. It doesn’t seem to have effected the release of various versions of the Purple Rain album.

The Symbol album is a niche product anyways.

It will never make a huge profit.

That's why I guess the previous Estate wanted to do a bundle.

The Estate has PR and licensing, as their cash cows and can do a (limited) run of lesser popular albums.

These can be sold online (their own shop, large online retailers etc) and during Cellies, musicals, MPLS state affair or whatever.

Not releasing anything with profitability as an argument does not make sense to keep the music legacy alive.

The Symbol album was a hit, if far from the success of D&P, and has instantly recognisable songs on it (My Name is Prince, Sexy MF), and, as mentioned previously, is regarded more highly amongst the core fanbase than D&P, and so might get sales of the deluxe set relatively strong compared to D&P.

Paisley Park is doing a 30th anniversary listening party for The Black Album next month. $53.50 per ticket for a rushed tour of the museum and a listening party of an album we've all heard. And I'm sure the listening party won't go without a pointless egotistical interruption from Charles and Londell, either talking themselves up or throwing some impromptu dance competition that distracts from the album itself rolleyes

Just remaster and reissue the fucking album, for christ's sake. It's not that hard.

I think it's safe to say there won't be any release this year smile A reissue of the Black album for the 30th anniversary is a good idea, but I doubt Londell and Spicer would agree.

The Estate is tone deaf.....

Purple Rain Pajamas. eek .....

It's just insane. but I blame Prince cause he was cryptic and erratic at best during his best periods, but these people think they can act like him.

If they did, we would have had "Camille", "Crystal Ball" (1987) and "Dream Factory" as separated releases the first year alone.

Prince may have been greedy at times, but the generosity and the dedication we received in return matched what was asked (well except maybe for the $77.77 and the Internet Sheriff thang).

Prince never thought or acted in such an uncultivated and disrespectful way
towards his audience, less alone his fans.

I blame Prince for not leaving a will.

I blame Prince for reacting like an unwanted child as usual
by showing Susan Rogers the door instead of saying to her:

I get it.
You're exhausted.
And you're right, my work needs proper curation.
Besides, one day my back will be gone and my back catalog will be my main income.
You may return to normal work hours and start digitizing all the songs I've recorded thus far.
Make sure you get some state of the art gear.

Just know that by the time you're done, you'll have twice the volume to do.

Prince did both. He enlightened his fans through his music before he became a Jehova and he discouraged his harem girls from thinking they could ever have him to themselves. lol

Yeah, The Estate can't even release the completed SDE of Love Symbol let alone Controversy.

And don't even think about Dirty Mind that one is too risqué for the Estate horny

I heard there wasn't and that Prince doesn't have this show in his vault because it was shot by the venue in black & white, like all there other shows, and that because of some legal loophole they could release it without any trouble (weird because I would think the audio would be owned by Prince/WB and the video only by the venue/whoever shot it)

I think the obvious choices for Controversy SDE video footage would be Houston 1981, and (if we're lucky) First Avenue 3.8.1982, or even what was shot for The Second Coming. Or, release all 3!

Ah! I see.
Yes, I doubt they have any legal right to release it.
I guess most shows in the vault were shot on whatever equipment the venue had. So often not much better than a security camera!
And in those days low quality video onto a VHS.

Why all these talkings about the SDEs.....it is so obvious that everything is blocked for different reasons & it seems so obvious too (despite the rumours) that the Estate & Primary wave don't care a shit about releasing stuff from the vault excepted maybe compilations from back catalogue & clothes/candles etc... i can't see something good popping up from all this mess really ?

They're not interested in releasing Vault music overall.

Whether it's SDE's or anything else.

Thank god they have that very convenient Netflix excuse.
