Controversy Super Deluxe
This would be a great choice. It’s time for this album to finally be celebrated.I feel the same way about Dirty Mind.

Given how time is running out, and there is still little appetite for the Estate to release any new SDE material, why not combine some SDE in the future per two.
Like this "Dirty Mind" & "Controversy" combination for exmaple.
Although I still think there is quite a big difference between both albums.
'Dirty Mind' was initially not meant to be released, but only for private use for Prince only... that's what history tells us.
Then I wonder what Prince did have in mind to release. Some sort of different kind of 'Controversy album?'
It's also one of those particular pivotal moments in Prince's early years I think.

And it deserves a more indepth release with a good full story.

If enough people boycott the "Celebrations" and desperate merch they are hawking, the Estate hopefully will release more as a way to generate income

Because in their eyes, who in their right mind would actually use the music on its own to make fans happy? What a concept lol

Some years ago it wqas already said that Dirty Mind and Controversy have more than enough material to be released as seperate SDE's with at least 6 discs each consisting of Live and studio outtakes/demos or whatever. Controversy was said to easily have enough material for 9 discs including The Second Coming audio and whatever was shot on video because there's enough overlap with 1999 and everything missing on that could be used on the Controversy SDE.
Cpontroversy made me a fan back in 81 so I'm all for a seperate SDE without Dirty Mind

I hate releases being tied to anniversaries. Just go back to his debut album, release that with extras, then in twelve months release the next. Possibly skip 1999 as we've already had that, but continue, and maybe release a 'new' album of material like Originals maybe, one in awhile.

It's so bloody easy.

Miles Davis’s estate is still releasing multi cd sets to this day.. Bruce Springsteen has 100’s of shows available direct for download on his Springsteen live site. The most recent Neil Young archive set had 17 cds & 5 blu rays, with over 14 hours of footage included.. I get the Netflix thing is holding things up.. but even with that.. much needs to be approved upon in general regarding the estate’s release strategy.

The Estate is tone deaf.....

Purple Rain Pajamas. eek .....

It's just insane. but I blame Prince cause he was cryptic and erratic at best during his best periods, but these people think they can act like him.

Prince got away with it because on any given day he could outperform you on every instrument and blow a crowd away, and on some days he could write a dolphin, or no light in a large room and just leave you picking up your jaw.

I bought all music related releases for years even if I hated the period of his career.

My new dream is ....

could we crowdsource and buy the catalog back as the Prince Collective?

5,000 hardcore fans @ $10K each =$50Million.

create an online site that chronicles his recording history etc for $10 a month and recoup the money in a few years.

Yes I know I am reaching.

I'm all for this, but... if the estate doesn't think those sets sold enough, why would they make bigger ones?

1999 & SOTT, although of course not "complete", are still pretty awesome. I can't see hating on those great packages because they aren't even greater. D&P on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired, but, that was what I expected for that album.

I have a feeling that even after the Netflix documentary dispute is resolved, the estate will continue focusing on everything but vault releases. Londell simply doesn't give a shit about what the long-time fans actually want.

D&P SDE contained video concert footage. So your theory IS pure BS

No, it's not. Netflix approved of the D&P SDE but when the Estate said no to their doc, Netflix said no to the Purple Rain SDE which was supposed to ship this summer and McMillion said the Estate didn't want to release it without video. neutral And releasing something without an accompanying video, like a CD with the 1988 Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic album or the 1981 Jamie Starr album to keep fans happy while the Netflix case gets resolved obviously never occured as a possibility in the Estate's thought processes. sad The Estate does appear to be rather ineffectual when it comes to releasing music. neutral

That's probably why they will continue celebrating Purple Rain next year, hoping things will work out with Netflix so they can release the PR SDE next summer. But there are no guarantees it will happen, so they should release something else in the meantime

Not true.
Netflix Doc was shown to the Estate circa february/march 2023.They became then vocal About trying to stop its release. D&P was released more than 6 months After that public clash.

The previous argument saying that " D&P SDE was allowed to be released because it was greenlighted by Netflix " can't be Taken seriously. The Netflix contract was signed circa 2018. Since then, 1999, SOTT, W2A were released.
Moreover, it was supposed to be a "Diamonds and Love " SDE that was to to be released, that is to Say both a D&P and a Love Symbol SDE.

So even if all that BS saying that Netflix blocked any video release were true, then the estate would have the right to release Love Symbol too. They just trimmed it for cost purposes, not because Netflix told them so.

More importantly, the Estate would have the right to release an audio only material, such as Originals.

So once again, the lack of releases is just showing a lack of interest from the estate

in 2026 we'll finally get that Purple Rain SDE, but instead of the OG Prince album, it will be the studio recording of the broadway musical, with a bonus disc of cast auditions/rehearsals and two discs containing a live performance of the musical.

I know right, something BIG is coming! razz

The Dirty Mind Era of 1979-1980. He was recording fast and furious, multiple songs sometimes a day. But The Prince Vaultshows only a few Prince/The Time songs in 1980. Where’s the rest?? I have a feeling there’s a treasure chest of totally unknown songs he recorded at his Kiowa home over the summer of 1980.

A Dirty Mind Super Deluxe would be mind-blowing.

The very fact that Netflix, a streaming service has all of Prince’s legacy held for ransom and is unable to operate releasing music which at the end of the day, he has no legacy without the music, is a travesty and Prince himself would be very unhappy it’s come to this. They need to prioritise the music and the fans and not do deals that hold the release of his music to random.

Some of his older fans aren’t going to be alive by the time all this vault material is finally release!

This is a terrible situation and maybe it’s time the fans wrote an open letter to the estate and we all sign it. They need to know this is not ok and we need the music released to actually celebrate the legacy and the music.

2 B honest, "Parade" SDE would B great (what is the source by the way ?). Anyway, any SDE, I'm fine with it. Weird this silence from the estate : nearly a year since "D&P" SDE has been released and thus nothing (except the 3 B-sides from "Musicology").

I'm all for a little bit of transparency but I think that is just to much to ask for at this moment.
As long as the Netflix issue just gets enough time to handle it in apositive way for evryone involved (including us the fans) then I'm all for radio silence. But hopefulle if things get solved maybe they can move on to more transparency and engage mreo with the fans. We will see.
I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt simply because they haven't released anything yet that wasn't from the previous previous management of the Estate. I'm not waiting for any hokey and unconfortable to watch musical by over the top dramaqueens acting on a stage so that shit they can keep, I'll be wating for anything out of the vault, the rest is for the general pub;ic I guess.

Beef between Prince LLC & Primary Wave.

They block each other's new ideas and proposals (of releasing new music?) all the time (it seems).

Apparently every possible newly released song needs an agreement of both parties.

Big ego's at both sides, not liking each other at all, not allowing each other to win with new ideas...

Someone stated this anonymously, who worked for them.

As long as they both can't agree on what to release, there always will be another shit like some new splatter vinyl release of Purple Rain or whatever.

Possibly shamefully hyped with a little bit of ads in our community, trying to convince us poor damn fools to spend $$ for nothing new.

Imagine the next release (probably) being a double picture vinyl disc of Purple Rain (with two/three songs at each side), with the 'flowers on the floor' background of the cover art, as the picture print, promoted with the story of Prince who himself arranged these flowers on the floor (...which is true by the way). Plus they are capable of using the useless Prince-non-mastered version that he approved.

Both Charles &nd MakeMillinos Super busy you say? ...nothing is actually going on.
