I voted for Biden and I will vote for Harris but that's so cringe it's unreal LOL. And generally, no, I don't think it's safe to assume anything about how P would've reacted to today's political landscape.

It is odd to hear people taking the position that the Estate shouldn't capitalize on the possibly MOST-POWERFUL person (and 2nd most-powerful) person in THE WORLD being BIG Prince fans.

If you're not going to ride that kind of wave, why even be in business???? (The Estate)

Someone mentioned ostrecizing half the country -- don't all musicians and actors and entertainers do that anyway? They almost ALL speak on or tweet out their views on various social issues. They have their pet causes. They have their personal affiliations that some people like and some people don't. But, generally, people that become fans support that artist.

This is about the music -- embracing putting Prince's music in the ears of many millions of people that are listening. Consider the amount of people volunteering, working at campaing locations, etc. What if an Estate playlist was issued to all of the campaign locations and it led to a resurgance in Prince music demand, etc. As a matter of fact, there was an Obama campaign CD released. And if I recall it had some very good cuts on it. WHY NOT do something like that, Estate?? (It doesn't have to be political songs -- it could be upbeat, happy songs. After all, that's what the campaign vibe is.)

Anyway, when the fire is hot, is when it's ready!!!! Let's go, Estate!!! biggrin

Now that you said something, it is quite disturbing!

That's a great premise for a horror film!!!

Did you guys see the DNC roll call last night? When they got to Minnesota, the DJ played a little bit of “1999” and “Kiss”.

Prince is being referenced alot at the DNC and I like it.

It's cool to discuss Kamala's statements. It's cool to discuss whether or not the estate should embrace her comments. It's cool to discuss Prince's politics.

It's not cool to redirect these discussions to attack the politics of other orgers. There's a reason the Politics & Religion forum was closed. We have enough animosity here already. Surely we can have an adult conversation without such attacks. No?

I quite like lustmealways childish sense of humour - it helps to lighten the mood, in this time of famine of new Prince music.

I agree!

Just hoping we can stick with discussing the pros and cons of the topic without devolving into a left/right argument. That would wreck the mood. wink

If this was the same story except it was the trump/vance campaign, would you feel the same way you do now?

I would. And I would feel the same way for the same reason I feel that way now. It's bad business to embrace half the country while ostracizing the other half.

Thought the performance was a little underwhelming, but great for P music to get some airtime at the DNC. And no ones being ostracized - there are plenty ty of (sensible) republicans at the DNC. So no reason why both sides can’t enjoy the performance and embrace his music.

Lol if it were Trump using Prince songs for his campaign ( I think it already happened circa 2016?),I guess it wouldn't be that same exaltation, am I right?

lol He has to stick with Kid Rock.

America,.

NONE of which pick a side or ostracise half the country. There's a difference between being political and being partisan.

.

I've made a few mixes where I've removed every last line of the verses and quite a few of the refrain. Because of horrible party specific and simply wrong (non-factual) information and jingoism.

.

Prince has done that more often, simply spouting mostly republican misinformation or just dumb, so called "deep" remarks. (like being completely unknowledgeable about other languages or etymology, like saying contract starts with con, so it's to con you into something)

.

Prince has plenty of texts where he picks a political side, not to speak of his overt christianity. Plenty of things to ostracise not just half the country, but most of the world. But now it would be wrong to possibly do something with a politician that's actually a funkateer and loves Prince's music? If there's a funky republican, just do the same..

.

Having a place for functions perform a function for one particular group doesn't ostracize anyone, as long as you're open to also have a function for another group. Especially if some of their ideas and love of music align with Prince's.

.

As far as I'm concerned, the Prince estate shouldn't endorse political candidates, but having functions with politicians that have some link with Prince is fine with me. I'd have more problems if they'd do something with R Kelly or similar people.

EVERY business has target customers (customers they specifically target).

It is one thing to target a customer, but it is SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY when a potential customer makes it expressly known that they want to visit something that only YOU have. (Paisley Park)

IMHO, if the ESTATE hasn't already reached out to get Harris/Walz camp for preliminary talks about visiting Paisley Park in the near future, they are derelict in their duties.

It goes without saying the type of buzz that would be created for Paisley Park if they made some event out of it (ESPECIALLY a campaign event??? The Revolution, Morris Day, Sheila E, voting/campaign throwdown???)

Harris/Walz are the ones who specifically said they want to go to Paisley Park and are big Prince fans.

I find Harris/Walz endearing, so I have no problem with supporting that collaboration. I find Trump/Vance to be the opposite, so I get your point, but that's just personal; I'm OK with basic capitalism if no one is getting hurt. If the ESTATE wants to do business with Trump/Vance that's on them.
