Gett Off to be covered by Popstars Rejects

Oh no it is true. why can't these shitty manufactured bands record their own new music.

http://www.ananova.com/en...html?menu=

The runners-up of Popstars: The Rivals are set to release their debut single in July - a cover of the Prince hit Gett Off.

New band Phixx consists of Peter, Andrew, Chris, Nick and Mikey - who is now dating Sarah from Girls Aloud.

They are managed by Nathan Moore - the former singer with 80s band Brother Beyond and 90s act World's Apart.

He also steered the original Popstars losers Liberty X to bigger success than Hear'say.

The band have been working with several songwriters, including Lee from Blue.

Chris told Radio 1: "He's the most talented guy any of us have ever worked with. He's a brilliant songwriter, producer, singer.

"People will print things but the fact that people like Lee with the talent they've got behind them believe in us is a massive compliment."

Werent the runners up of Popstars the Rivals called One True Voice?

Or are we talking about the people that didnt make it into either of the final bands?

I need a life...

Jeesh, that's no good, you think Prince would at least block it. Bilal couldn't cover Adore but some popstar rejects can do Gett Off complete with it's "sinful" lyrics? biggrin

Didn't that one girl group Eden's Crush get signed due to Popstars but they only got one single out before the label went bankrupt? What happened to those chicks? They were hot...

its sort of a good thing.

i mean sure british pop manufactured bands suck ass...

but this will hopefully give prince some exposure.
however im sure 99% of the kids 2day will think Max Martin or Pharell Williams wrote GettOff.

i try telling a mate of mine that the bridge from jayZ's "Bonnie&Clyde" is a Prince sample & he says "nah it's TuPac's.Its all TuPac's.that part ain't prince's"

I saw Pete Waterman on some tv program saying these boy/girl band producers just stick a pin in the book of British hit singles and do that song.

Seems like this time it landed in the Prince section...

ok so Prince is being a hypocrite again with who he lets cover his tracks. but look at this way: if these brats make a good job of it (which they won't) it'll be a hit and Prince will be back in the spotlight. then once it's a big hit and all the hoopla falls away, this new kiddie band will disappear, cuz that's what happens when you cover one of his songs or work with him.
the evidence is there: the time, sheila e, sinead, even alicia keys had a minor hit with HCUDCMA.

I'd say the song is owned also by WB so I figure Prince cannot really block such a cover...

He blocked Bilal from covering Adore, made a message on his website against it and all.

Perhaps Bilal respected Prince enough to not do the cover
when he asked him to pass on it.

I hardly doubt wether these kids, whomever they are, have
anything to say on the matter other than what their press
perps tell them to say and think.

Furthermore, I doubt wether this will get Prince as an
artist in his own right any exposure at all.

All those moronic kids yapping into their little plastic
phones all day long, considering Ja Rule the best artist
ever to walk the planet don't know Prince wrote Gett Off
they don't even know who Prince is anymore.

When I finally convinced one of my friends that Prince
did write NothingCompares2U and HCUDCMA, by pointing out
the linernotes to the albums he fcking OWNED, he just said
"Well, they're the worst songs on the albums anyway".

True, I think Bilal just backed out not wanting to annoy one of his idols, did HCUDCMA as a rare B-side instead.

Will Prince be raising similar public condemnations regarding future prospected covers though is the point?

Wrong. sorry, but this can't be blamed on WB. It's down to the publishing rights (not THE MASTERS) when it comes to cover versions / samples.

You have to send a copy of the cover version to the publishing company (Controversy / Warner Chappel) and the artist. The artist then has to give permission for the use of the song. The publishing company draws up the contract.

Why Prince stopped Bilal - who knows, but it's up to P. No publishing company is EVER going to refuse a cover as that's how they make money.
