I still haven't made it through the D&P SDE!!!

They shouldn't release more music for anyone until I find the time to digest the remaining disc of vault tracks I haven't got to on that release from almost a year ago. Maybe they need to curate things and release less so we're not overwhelmed?

Well, in fairness, the vault tracks really don't add any gems to his catalog. Mostly mid. I listened to it all three times and haven't gone back to it since. SOTT SD is a different story.

Got this on realese date and still never heard the remaster/vault tracks lol

I still have to rip them to digital files for my old-ass iPod, only then will i listen to them

in my vehicle!

I did watch the live video, though.

In the breakdown at the end of "Cream", he sang along to his guitar.

One of the phrases was "...imma slide my d*ck in2 yo p*ssy"

Then, later in the show, he gets up on the bar and makes sure that everyone waiting for a drink

sees how "the lil Prince" can dance, too!!! lol lol

The other one I like is when they break down the math of SDE discs into albums proper.

"Let's see Prince released an average of one album per year and the SDE's have been an average of 7 discs and we've gotten 3 of them so HM HM by MY calculations that's like 4-5 ALBUMS per-year, MORE than he ever released!!"

Like they literally put the same concert on 3 discs the last set you tools. "HM HM, by MY calculations if we cap each SDE bonus disc at an average 30:14 minute Dirty Mind LP runtime that's like 20 albums proper"

Thanks for this. biggrin I'm getting frustrated by fans who seriously think the Estate should not release way more music. Don't flood the market, you know.

loz, "the market", that's another line these clowns spew. Bro has like 3 fans under 35. The rest of "the market" is as primed and ready to spend as much as they'll probably ever be. Anything further would require some actual marketing.

I haven't made it through this yet either.
I did listen to the Glam Slam show, which rocks.

I must admit, the whole NPG era is not a favorite of mine. Prince was mostly chasing trends from 91-93 rather than setting them.

That's frustrating for people like me who don't buy physical releases. I happily buy FLAC files, but a PDF file of the liner notes would be cool. Oh, and also a way to legally get the videos as well. I had to get Glam Slam 1992 illegally.

You could also buy it physically, keep the liner notes for you in your library, and give the rest of the Boxset to someone dear to your heart, for his birthday or something.

I'm not a fan of the curating by date way they do the vault tracks, to me it leads to a very sterile interpretation of the album - a lot of them were never intended for D&P, I would much rather hear all the verisons and alternate mixes of D&P stuff we know had a chance to be on it.

The Vault songs on this release aren't quite as good as PR:DE, 1999:SDE or SOTT:SDE. Maybe that's why you can't get through them?

A lot of the songs have a common sound that links them . . . same as the 3 albums I listed above, but the D&P sound is not nearly as timeless as those other albums. It definitely has that early 90s sound (a bit New Jack, but also just in general).

The problem is also most of those songs don't have the D&P sound at all, which was very organic with live drums and a full band, unlike most of those songs Prince wrote for others at the same time having that new jack swing one man band sound. Now I realize there probably wasn't much more material with the D&P sound proper in the vault, so that's all they had, but it shows the limitations of those chronological SDEs as a listening experience. Someone here once replied to me those albums aren't made to be listened as a whole, that we live in the "make your own playlists eras" and they may be right, but I personally believe cohesive compilations of outtakes would serve Prince's legacy better. There would have been a shorter proper D&P outtakes record and a cool, separate, new jack swing album to make there for those who dig that sound (which I do, but not necessarily mixed up with D&P and prince material).
