Yep, if they really have a Purple Rain SDE in the can for this year, it'd be better to capitalize on the buzz around the anniversary now. Would have been even better to announce it back in late April, or on Prince's birthday, or at Celebration 2024.

but they're not announcing it because they probably don't even have a SDE together.

Spicer literally implied at Celebration that Netflix has first use rights to aaaaaaaallllll the Purple Rain era stuff and there ain't shit the Estate can do to release it unless they consent to release of the Netflix doc, which they have stated they absolutely will not do.

We better just hope the deal is for PR stuff and not any/all Prince footage any era the doc was going to use.

I've heard it's because it shows the many facets of Prince, the good and not so good parts and they're worried that it'll get Prince "canceled" Supposedly it touches on his "grooming" of women like Mayte and Anna Fantastic, among other things. This is what I was told, but I can't say for sure if that's what the hold up is. It could be this, along with many other reasons, or different reasons altogether.

going from that tweet reply about the jon bream piece (which was not exactly slanderous) it seems they are way too protective/censorious. but i guess that they really ARE channelling prince in that regard. he would do exactly the same. shame though, they just seem petty.
