Auctions of Prince’s Vox HDC-77 Electric Guitar and a Yellow Schecter Cloud Guitar https://www.sothebys.com/...511/prince
The guitar is being brought to auction by Donna Grantis…from her private collection and hasn’t been played since Prince last performed with it (Prince’s final band performance with 3RDEYEGIRL was in Washington, DC on the 14th June 2015). Estimate of £200,000 – £300,000 Edit: To amend subject to include details of other guitar being auctioned, mentioned in later post. Note: I have nothing to do with these sales, just thought there are some interesting details to share. [Edited 8/14/24 17:15pm] There may or may not be something coming!

It's pretty strange that this ended up in Donna's private collection - even if she was the one who introduced Prince to the Vox guitars, I'd have assumed she gave the guitar to him, they weren't expensive.
Would anyone be interested in forming a consortium of fans to buy this guitar together and put it on permanent display at Paisley Park?

what a bad idea indeed [Edited 8/14/24 1:41am] "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972)

Nice, I believe that's the one he was playing on the Euro leg of the 3rdEyeGirl tour, which was probably the last best tour he did, killing it several times while overseas, especially in Portugal and the UK, would love to have that!

https://gottahaverockandr...54452.aspx Yellow Schecter Cloud Guitar also up for auction. From the listing: The guitar comes with a signed letter of provenance from the consignor who acquired the guitar from a previous employee of Prince. Per the employee, "I worked for Prince as a guitar technician for a little over a year and a half. Around this time he was commissioning the line of 'Manufactured exclusively for NPG' Schecter range. This guitar was one sent to Prince for testing and approval. You will notice with this being a prototype for testing that it does not have the 'Manufactured for NPG or Schecter serial number' on the headstock. Instead, this was assigned an official 'PRN Music Corp' serial number of 16231 which sits inside the battery panel. I witnessed Prince testing the guitar on several occasions and during rehearsals for two separate in house shows. I would set this guitar up for Prince during those times among several other guitars. His approval was eventually given for the NPG line after some adjustments were made. Although Prince was very demanding, he was great to work for, incredible to see in action and very generous. At the end of my time with him, he allowed me to keep 16231’ There may or may not be something coming!

Yeah, definitely the one he played at Shepherd's Bush Empire in 2014. That was the last time I saw him live, and it would be a cool guitar to own for sure.
Of course I wish I'd won the lottery to bid on and win the original Cloud#3 recently too - that one truly is legendary... Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I understand the money stand point of these sellers but if they thought so much of Prince you would think that they would want to hang on to it!

Ah well, there's a lot of money tied up in these, being a musician is a tough road financially in life so I can understand why the instruments get sold. Given the choice between a guitar and a roof over your head etc.
